I hope this is a welcome comment. I am hoping that I did not step over my bounds. Edited to add: Do some people do the applique on the border strips before attaching them to the quilt body? It seems to me that would be easier. |
OK, so, the appliqued borders are just not working! Blah!! I fixed the borders just to realize what the real problem was! The fabric that I used in the sashing between blocks was beautiful so I decided I wanted to keep using it in the outside borders so I used the second cut of it that I had set aside for the backing. I didn't remember that they were in two cuts because one was from the remainder of one bolt and the other was a fresh cut. So, the sashing in the center is a bit stiffer than the outside borders. Thus, all the waves. But, I got them straightened out really well so I'm just going to leave it as it is, do the quilting and then scallop the borders. What I might do to add more design to the borders is "draw" in the applique designs I had originally intended to use with the quilting.
