[quote=quiltsRfun]I think the applique will be a nice addition to the plain borders.[/quote

Totally agree!

I hope this is a welcome comment. I am hoping that I did not step over my bounds.

Edited to add: Do some people do the applique on the border strips before attaching them to the quilt body? It seems to me that would be easier.

No, please don't feel you overstepped any bounds. I'm a new quilter and really looking for the advice here. :D I've done applique on the border strips before adding them once before but wanted to try something new this time. If I do the applique this time, I'm going to hand applique the pieces to swirl around the corner so that's why I added the border pieces first this time. It's a new style/technique and I wanted this quilt to sort of get me out of my newbie quilter comfort zone...it's done just that, too!

OK, so, the appliqued borders are just not working! Blah!! I fixed the borders just to realize what the real problem was! The fabric that I used in the sashing between blocks was beautiful so I decided I wanted to keep using it in the outside borders so I used the second cut of it that I had set aside for the backing. I didn't remember that they were in two cuts because one was from the remainder of one bolt and the other was a fresh cut. So, the sashing in the center is a bit stiffer than the outside borders. Thus, all the waves. But, I got them straightened out really well so I'm just going to leave it as it is, do the quilting and then scallop the borders. What I might do to add more design to the borders is "draw" in the applique designs I had originally intended to use with the quilting.
