Candi, you did a beautiful job on the commas! LOL! This was the worst block for those scrolls that I've done so far. I've done all the center section blocks...there may be another doosie on the outer border...I'm scared to look!

Elle suggests the freezer paper, but I've just been needle turning mine and learning some new words along the way :wink:

Candi, I am using freezer paper. I was worried about those scrolls, so I clipped the seam allowances almost down to the finished edge, & using a glue stick, glued only the innie psrts of the scroll. The rest of the scroll I basted down & stitched the scroll down & I think it turned out great! Here is a pic of my block (I was going to wait until we are actually doing Block 17, but here it is, anyway.

Its lovely Kathy! I love the brights that you've used. I did think this block was hard, with all those teeny fiddly pieces on the 7"...it was neigh on to impossible in MHO!! LOL!

Kathy, your block is just gorgeous! Love the colors. Now I am trying to picture what you are saying about the commas, lol. I am using a template and pressing the seam allowance under...the main issue I have is the little inne part where I have not much seam allowance to turn under. I wonder if it would look bad if I do them in two sections: the circle and the curve separately.

How about using Patti´s method and using a small dot of glue to keep the fabric under.

Candi, I see NO reason why you can't do the "comma's" (lol) anyway you want! Doing them in 2 pieces is of course another step, but I can see why it would work out just great! Go for it girl, if its how you want to try one!

I think that if you do them with your template, you will need to saturate that innie with starch and let that kind of "glue" the innie in place before you stitch it down. You are right, there are really only a few threads to turn under right there!

I have just gotten the book for these blocks! You all have inspired me to add this to my *to do* list :) Great blocks everyone has made!

I have a question: Is everyone using cotton thread for appliqueing ? and if so, are you having to hunt all over for colors of the thread you need? And is it 50 weight thread as well? I don't have many cotton hand sewing thread...
