Please post your Block 17 photos here.

I really broke out of the mold on this one - orange everywhere, even the Razzle Dazzle thread is orange! This one wasn't hard, except for changing the thread color so often - 6 different colors!

I love "out of the box"!! Beautiful work!

magpie 03-17-2011 08:10 PM

All of your blocks are gorgeous. Love looking at them.

BETTY62 03-17-2011 09:03 PM

Wow. That's beautiful.

luvmortherest 03-17-2011 10:38 PM

i have a quilted laptop bag to finish for DD, then i am going to make some quilted potholders for my niece who is getting married on my anniversary. (along with my 2 DJ's and my grandmothers flower garden)

If anyone needs help with working scrolls, I took a few pics that might help. Just let me know and I will post those too.

Pretty

sandpat 03-27-2011 04:43 AM

Oh gosh...both of you have done lovely blocks! I'm going to tackle this baby today...its a hard one to pick the fabs for. I'll drag the whole sack into the den and let DH help..he loves that part!

Thanks for all the details Lesley. I'm thinking that on the little teeny scrolls (my block is 7") that I'll have to clip a little bit. I think I can overlap several of the pieces though and get a nice point.

Here are some pics of a scroll I did - it wasn't for this block, but the principle is the same. Hope they help.

This is for a scroll on Block 20, but as I said, the principle is the same. Take the pattern and put it on the fabric to draw round

Sewing commenced

I know you will have your scroll already drawn on the background. I don't usually draw the scroll on scroll fabric when stitching in this direction, but when the scroll goes in the opposite direction I do draw round the pattern to help know where to snip into that tight point

The tail end of this one has another piece stitched over it, so it doesn't need to be stitched under

Oh those are gorgeous! Thank you for posting, it makes the rest of us think outside the box too.

sandpat 03-27-2011 04:03 PM

Thanks Lesley....thats the direction I'm going...its the tight inner part that concerns me. I think that a couple of the skinny pointy points are covered with another piece on that end, so that helps.

ok Lesley are a lefty or a righty?

Ah, then you might have to put a mirror next to your 'puter, that might just help unless there is anyone else here doing needleturn and left handed who could help.

luvmortherest 03-28-2011 09:07 PM

thank you. i AM going to make this quilt. (and finish all my other projects to boot)

Quilter7x 03-30-2011 06:04 AM

Well I tried and it doesn't look that good I guess I need to practice more. I hope you have better luck than I am having

Butterflyspain 04-02-2011 12:01 AM

Huh I chickened out, I looked at it and looked at it and then thought nope, try another.

Lacelady 04-02-2011 01:14 AM

There is no shame in leaving this one until later and you have a bit more experience.

Once you have made more leaves and heart shapes, you will have built up some confidence and the scroll won't be so daunting.

Butterflyspain 04-02-2011 01:49 AM

I just didnīt fancy doing it just at that moment, if I put my mind to it I will do it. i never give up

Didnīt find it daunting found it fiddly

Here is mine. This took me about 12 hours...I'm slow. It is NOT my favorite, I don't think it is really pretty compared to the others, but guess what....its going IN the quilt!

I love it Patti, you know what happčned with Jane when you thought you didnīt like the block and it wasnīt going to work. Well you know it did and I think this one will fit in lovely.

Elle

Lacelady 04-02-2011 09:53 AM

I like it Patti - you made a great job of the scrolls - now the rest in the quilt won't be quite so bad.

Are you timing yourself for every block? I haven't.

well my block 17 is still a WIP and my scrolls are just not what I think they should be. I have beeen working on this block 3 days and I only have one scroll put on I had to go to the next block before I had a melt down. Well back to the blocks. Maybe I will show block17 when I finally finish it , or maybe not. have fun

Oh dear Lynnie, that sounds so sad, I am really sorry you are having such a problem.

I looked for a Youtube video that might help - I couldn't find one the way I do it, but this might be an alternative way:

It would be the second half of this that you need to watch, and using her method would need quite a few tiny snips in the seam allowance to get nice curves, but it could work quite well.

 I love red. Sometimes what we don't feel all that enthused about by itself, really plays well in groups :XD:
It has serious potential and gets applause from the paws ;)
I have my book and a lot of the fabrics...just got to get a lot more other things lined up, so I won't be working along with y'all, but visiting often to slurp up the goodness. Keep it coming, I could look at these for days, weeks, months...and probably will be looking at mine...let's hope not years! :?

sandpat 04-02-2011 04:29 PM

Well, thank you all...Lesley, I am kinda keeping track of the hours. I didn't do that on Jane and wished that I had. I'm not doing it to the minute...but fairly close. Its just one of those interesting little things to keep up with

QuiltswithConvicts 04-02-2011 04:48 PM

Patti, your scrolls look fab!!! I'm a big chicken to try needle turn. I, like you, learned back in the 80s to use freezer paper, & that was how I did JJ. Looking at LBB, I think I may try NT on some leaves, if nothing else. I do need to be more open minded - if I can just get Lesley out of my head! She's in there reading my mind. :)

Greenini looked at my scrolls yesterday and said I may be a little to critical she said that my first one didn't look to bad we thought maybe I need to make a Y snip into the curve of the scroll. I will post pic when I am finished.

Well done Patty, that's one of the harder ones, so you have that cracked, you can reward yourself with an easier one!

Butterflyspain 04-06-2011 08:46 AM

I am tackling that one now, so will see how I go, its a bit tricky, donīt know if it has such sharp curves as the one I have just finished, sorry canīt remember the number
