This is the first one I tweaked. I made the outer leaves a little bit fatter, and then added in extra petals on the waterlillies. Finaly, because I wasn't keen on the original centre circle, I changed mine into a lilly pad.

Your lilies are marvelous.

QuiltswithConvicts 03-28-2011 03:48 AM

Lesley, you added extra petals to the lillies, didn't you? Really is lovely, as usual. I just don't think about changing anything until the block is done.

Butterflyspain 03-28-2011 04:30 AM

Lovely block Kathy. Lesley for some reason I am only getting a quarter of one of your pics. Its my computer but it is so annoying as I really want to see it.

Butterflyspain 03-28-2011 04:32 AM

Ahh at last your pic came up, its gorgeous and so worth the wait.

Aaah, poor Elle, so sorry. Glad you eventually got it.

And Kathy, yes, I thought the waterlillies looked a bit moth eaten until I added the extra petals. More work, but I like it better.

QuiltnNan, you have been so kind and visited all our blocks with nice comments - thank you.

Butterflyspain 03-28-2011 08:18 AM

I really do like the way you did this block, so much better than the original IMHO, may have to do a copy cat on that one.

Be my guest, it will be interesting to see the variations on this one.

JudyG 03-30-2011 07:45 PM

Love what you did with this block, Lesley. Does look so much better. Great choice of fabrics as usual.

sandpat 04-02-2011 06:00 AM

Lesley, I plan to shamelessly copy you on the additions!

Both of your blocks are lovely!

Go ahead Patti - I have no objections and I put pics of the design drawn on the fabric so people could if they wanted to.

sandpat 04-02-2011 04:02 PM

thanks...:D:

Here is mine...finished....FINALLY! I think this one took me about 14 hours. I know...thats disgustingly slow! Anyway..its a 7"..so the petals and leaves are really skinny. I added the extra petals and only did the center in 2 pieces(via Lesely).. but I had forgotten about that bit of embroidery in the center lily pad...and it desparately needs it! I'll go back and do that before I put the block away. I'm not happy with it....but it will go into the "boy, did I ever get some much needed practice on points on that one!" area of the quilt. LOL!

I think you did a wonderful job on that block, Patti. All your tips meet where they're supposed to. I have a problem with that sometimes (even tho I'm doing the 10" blocks), so I am impressed. And I continue to love the colors you are using. Keep up the good work. Just think how relaxing it will seem when you get to your 10" blocks.

Dee Dee 04-19-2011 06:19 AM

Wow - that is stunning!

Dee Dee 04-19-2011 06:20 AM

Judy, the block with your name in your post is just gorgeous. What is that block?

Thanks, DeeCee. I'm glad you like it. The pattern in the center is called Swirling Tulips. This was a pattern I bought for a class I took a couple of years ago. After the class I took, it ended up in my UFO pile and I just found it again a couple of months ago. I was trying to figure if I wanted to do more blocks and make it into a quilt and then I decided to join the International Round Robin that began last September and use it for my center block for that. It has three borders on it now and I think will only get one more as one member of our group has not been heard from for months and I asked that my quilt not be sent to her for the fourth border. I would rather it come home short a border than not come home at all. I absolutely love what the gals have done with it.

You can find the pattern at http://www.quiltsbylyn.com/patterns1.htm It's in the middle of the 9th row down. It really is a fun pattern. The only bad thing is that it calls for a special ruler.

Somebunny 04-19-2011 06:29 AM

Beautiful blocks!

Butterflyspain 04-19-2011 06:36 AM

Patti, I think that is wonderful and I donīt care that it took 14 hours because so far, my one has taken me 1 1/2 weeks and its still not done because I do a petal and then put it down, its a beast. I love the colours

Elle

Patti, your block looks great, love the colours and your points are great too even if you hated doing them. I had a problem doing this block as I had raging toothache that week (root infection) and it took me a week to get this one done - it was almost like aversion therapy somehow, so I was really pleased to have that one behind me.

sandpat 04-19-2011 04:31 PM

So happy that I'm not alone in my love/hate relationship with this block. LOL! LOL!!! This conversation gives the others something to look forward to, right>>giggle, giggle...

QuiltswithConvicts 04-19-2011 04:34 PM

WOW! Yes, all your points meet up just like they should! So proud of you!!!

I'm chicken to try needleturn. I learned with freezer paper & I rely on it. I am too OCD to try needleturn as I would drive myself crazy trying to get it perfect. With the freezer paper - I can get it as perfect as possible.

The block is beautiful! It looks like you have mastered working with the RD threads quite nicely.

sandpat 04-19-2011 05:04 PM

I do like it much better with the R/D on it Kathy although I still must add that little bit to the lily pad in the center.

I learned with freezer paper too...I'm determined to do this quilt without though...LOL!

4EVERquilt 04-19-2011 05:06 PM

Man!! beautiful job!!

Dee Dee 04-19-2011 05:41 PM

Oh My! it is beautiful. Those quilt patterns are stunning! Thanks for your response and the link.
