I just finished this almost black and white strip quilt for my neice and her new husband. I've wanted to make a strip quilt for a long time and finally got up the nerve to try it. The little piece of red in the binding was my neighbor's idea. I'm going to make another out of the extra 3" strips I cut for this quilt, I hadn't a clue of how many to cut so I just cut LOTS. It went together very fast, two days.

oooh, I really like your quilt! I'm a big fan of black and whites! And I do like the touch of red in the binding.

mosher92 06-28-2010 11:39 AM

very nice quilt. What is the reason for the small piece of red?

Chele 06-28-2010 11:40 AM

Your quilt is beautiful. I have a black and white one made almost like your in different strips. I think i will have mine quilted in red.

How did you figure the length and placement of each strip Was there a pattern of sorts to follow? I love the looks of your quilt and think it is really sharp looking! Carol

MaryStoaks 06-28-2010 12:04 PM

Thanks for the nice comments ladies. There is no reason for the red in the binding except that I told my neighbor the quilt is almost black and white because in a few of the fabrics the white is whiter than other pieces. She said I should make the "Almost" more obvious.
I had no pattern to the strips, just tried for various lengths and values.

I think the red adds some humor and a quirkiness I'm in synch with:> Love it.

I love your quilt. Black and white is so striking and when you give a hint of red it's perfection. Great quilt and thanks for sharing.

Sheila Elaine 06-28-2010 02:51 PM

They will love it. The red is good so you can tell which side of the bed it goes on. You have a winner.

Good job! Love the little bit of red. I have been collecting Black and White fabric to do a project in the future. Nice to see yours for inspiration.

BarbaraA 06-29-2010 08:25 PM

Very pretty, I really like it. And I think the design is perfect for a bed, something you wouldn't get tired of. I'be been thinking of making a quilt for my bed, but didn't want a "traditional" quilt design. I love it!

Great looking quilt. I have a lot of B&W's that I haven't figured what to do with. Don't you just love it when you cut too much or make too many blocks? I'm working on a quilt that didn't have fabric amounts and had to do my own calculations. Opps! twice as many blocks as I needed. Now I can make a quick quilt when I need one, or just make one for myself.

polly13 06-30-2010 06:50 AM

How did you do the quilting---any specific pattern or FMQ? I really like the quilt, but being a black/white/red lover, would have had to sneak a bit more red in somewhere. But then my friends would have teased me for having to get a touch of red in there. Clever idea your neighbor gave you.

I did side to side FMQ on my Tin Lizzie. I'm not very imaginative with quilting, I just do the very easy side to side loops.

Thanks for the close-up. It is beautifully done. I'm just never sure what to do after I make the quilt top.

TexasGurl 06-30-2010 02:54 PM
