I have a personal goal to make 12 quilt tops in 2009. I only have a month left and 3 of them are not totally complete. One needs two border sides done, another needs the applique finished and then borders, another has two rounds of borders to do. I have a mental block about doing borders that I find it very difficult to get past!!

I'm going to try my best to get them done before the end of the year. I have lots of things I want to try in 2010 and would like these to be all behind me and get them quilted by an LAQ.

WOW!!!! Those are amazing!

Tiffany 12-05-2009 10:50 AM

Pam, those are amazing!!!! Not only have you almost met your goal but you did it with patterns that are not the easiest. I am so impressed and inspired. My goal is to do at least 12 quilts this coming year and I hope mine turn out at least half as good as yours. Kudos! (And how do I get on your Christmas list?)

If you are interested in learning more about borders, I highly recommend Marsha McCloskey's book "Pieced Borders: The Complete Resource" and Sally Collin's book "Borders, Bindings, & Edges." I can't begin to tell you how much those books have changed the way I do my borders. My borders used to be boring and were something I just couldn't seem to wrap my mind around until my friend loaned me those 2 books. I'll post the link to their websites, in case you are interested.

KBunn 12-05-2009 11:10 AM

Wow...those are amazing. I have made that same goal for 2010 but my tops will be no where near that intricate. You do wonderful work! You should be proud.

azdesertrat 12-05-2009 11:11 AM

beautiful!

alaskasunshine 12-05-2009 11:38 AM

What beautiful quilt tops. I feel the same way about borders, all that math if you want to do something different and stunning! I really struggle with math, it almost kept me out of quilting!
That is great way to get those tops done. I need to set a goal like that too!
Thanks for posting, would love to see them more closely...PLEASE

Susy 12-05-2009 11:42 AM

Those are all just beautiful, the round blue one is gorgeous.

I'm with you, not a math whiz! You should see the shocked looks I get when someone uses some fancy math term like hypotenuse and I look confused.

NiceNCLady 12-05-2009 12:21 PM

Wow they are beautiful! Is your goal for 2010 going to be to get them all quilted? :)

pittsburgpam 12-05-2009 12:31 PM

It sure has been a year of learning new patterns and how to use EQ6. It should be my goal to get them all quilted in 2010. The one in dark browns is done and given to my brother. The log cabin star is in the frame being hand quilted and I think I'm almost done with the second row of blocks so there are 4 more to go.

I'm getting housework done this morning so I can spend the majority of the weekend working on them. I think I can get the two that just need borders done. The one that needs applique will go easier now that I've done other applique this year. Maybe I'll be better and quicker at it and if I bring it downstairs I'll be more likely to work on it in the evenings.

Harmony 12-05-2009 04:24 PM

I'm in awe! I can't believe you've actually done 12 quilts this year! And they're ALL beautiful! My money says you'll get them all completed so you'll be free to do 12 more next year!

Blue Bell 12-05-2009 04:53 PM

All of your quilts are outstanding. And I think you reached your goal.
Congratulations!

jbsstrawberry 12-05-2009 05:16 PM

WOW!!! They're all so pretty! I think you made one heck of a wonderful dent in your goal!! Great work!!!!

pittsburgpam 12-05-2009 05:36 PM

Wow.. thank YOU all so much. I appreciate having this board to share things with. Most everyone in real life, if I told I did 12 tops, would have a vague look and say something like, "That's nice." I am so glad to have friends that understand the work it took to do it. And that are so encouraging!!

sandpat 12-05-2009 05:42 PM

Pam...I bow down to you in awe! I've loved all your quilts through the year...borders a problem to you??? Pshaw....phewy...not so!!! All your quilts are just amazing!

Joan 12-05-2009 06:11 PM

I can't believe it, Pam!

What a wonderful accomplishment....you are certainly a committed quilter....and it does take commitment!

Be proud and pat yourself on the back! Your work is beautiful!

My favorite is the one with houses and the applique center, it is awesome--(don't give that one away, keep it for yourself!)

mumtoliam 12-05-2009 06:20 PM

They all are very beautiful!!!! Great job!! You'll get the last ones finished!

Dittoes! But, I have found in my few short years of life and living that the truly good ones, never know how capable they are ... your diligence makes that difference, friend .. and, setting goals is the best way to find out what you are made of and what you can actually accomplish.
I also agree with you that this board is great for encouragement, inspiration, and fellowship! <wave>

redquilter 12-05-2009 07:40 PM

WOW! What can I say that hasn't already been said? Your quilts are absolutely amazing. I can't believe that someone can turn out 12 quilts in a year, let alone such gorgeous, time-consuming ones! Pat yourself on the back - you deserve it!

It's taken me a couple of hours to get the last two sides ready, measured and marked, one of them sewn on, and one corner done.

I need to stop chosing borders that need to be mitered!!

guzman311 12-05-2009 08:17 PM

wow! WOW! good for you. You are already a winner

Moonpi 12-05-2009 09:09 PM
