Alphabet quilt guild challenge

1 Attachment(s)
Our quilt guild, Christian County Quilt Guild in Taylorville, IL is hosting a quilt show in June this year. Members were given the opportunity to do an optional quilt challenge. Since I have never had any quilts to show (as they all have homes other than mine), I decided to participate. The challenge was to create an 18" quilt square, using at least one batik, and depicting one letter of the alphabet (which was chosen at random). Of course, I got "Z", ugh. I am usually fairly cautious and traditional, so thought this was a good opportunity to think outside the box and have fun with it. What do you think? It WAS fun and being small, didn't take me but a couple days to work out.

Helen S 03-23-2013 09:36 AM

Totally AWESOME! My eye was drawn to the "floor" and was looking for the bottom green border, thinking the floor was "falling out" of the quilt, yet my eye kept being drawn to the person standing outside the bars and the visual perception is just so very interesting - it's a winner in my book! Love how the zebras heads are peeking through the bars.
Best of luck!

Ashjoy 03-24-2013 04:19 AM

I think z was the perfect letter for you! That's amazing!

lallyann 03-24-2013 04:36 AM

Perhaps you should "think outside the box" more often!! This is fabulous! I love the silhouette with the balloon. Not only did you depict zebras, but a zoo as well! Awesome challenge!
