As another board member said once "My never again Quilt"

A friend asked me to make her daughter a t-shirt quilt with all her high school shirts. The daughter wanted it colorful and thick. I had to put two layers of poly/cotton batting to get the thickness. Then i couldn't sew it through the machine. So I big stitched it with some heavy cotton thread. Mom bought a down cover and I used one of the sides for the back.

That's really nice. Love the back on it. My husband wants me to make a T-Shirt quilt using drag racing t-shirts. Will have to do some investigating before I start on this one.
very lovely
I especially love the backing fabric!
Yep it looks like it would be a nightmare to quilt. It looks great though!
you did a good job

My daughter is saving T-shirts from her kids for the very same thing one day. Tips appreciated!

I learned to say NO to people who want a comforter instead of a quilt. You did great with what restrictions your clients put on you. Job well done.
Wonderfully done!
That's going to be mighty warm for Louisiana!

As long as I can make someone happy, that's a gift in it's self to me. |
great job and I agree with QuiltMom2
Very nicely done!
It looks great...but i can tell just by looking at it that it was A LOT of work. But you get points for being a very kind person for doing it.
I think she will love it. You did a great job.
What a a nice job you did congrats!
Just finished t-shirt race car quilt for a friend. Backed it in black with checkered flags in the center. She loved it.
its gorgeous but so much work. i love the never again not me :) you did a great job!
That's one really nice quilt! Beautifully done, but I can appreciate the work you had to do. Kudos!
That's a great looking quilt & I can only imagine the pain of quilting the thickness.
Bless you for quilting through two layers of batting, not something easy to do. A dear friend asked me to quilt her sister's baby quilt, which had fluffy poly batting. I'd just read an article on quilting with quilting tacks, instead of tying-I think I used stars or something similar, it worked, but it's something I don't want to do again, as the batting was so thick. Her sister loved it and even gave me several 1/2 yard cuts of fabric as I had refused payment.
it looks good!!!
Thanks all for the kind words. It was a challenge to say the least. It was also my 1st and probably last quilt of it's kind.
Love the back
Nice tshirt quilt.
Very very nice and probably treasured greatly, but I agree never again.
You did a beautiful job. Looks like a beast to quilt. I can see why you named it your "never again" quilt! The backing is gorgeous fabric.

Great job....

I made a T-Shirt quilt top only for a lady from her son's shirts she has me if I wanted to quilt it for her, NO way it was a queen size and very heavy also. If GOD does not change my mind I will not do another one. It's not my cup of tea so to speak, with the good stabilizer on it to keep from stretching they are very very warm. |
I may be taking back what I said. It's suppose to get pretty cool here in the Gulf region. Got pretty cool last night and not suppose to get above the low 60s with lows in low 40s this week. Thinking more how I may want one a little heavier than most down here. I have become such a panty waist in the last few years. Being on blood thinners doesn't help.

That does look tough to quilt through but so good for snuggling! I'm working on a rock concert tee shirt quilt for my DH - he's a stagehand so we have gotten hundreds of concert shirts over the years. I've been giving them away for years as the full bags in the closet take up too much space, then I learned about making quilts from them. You've inspired me to get back to it!

That turned out nicely, especially with two layers of batts! That will be one warm quilt!
