Another Quilt Done

2 Attachment(s)
One of the ladies from my church told me Sunday that one of her friends wanted to bring a quilt top and see about getting me to quilt it. It was an improved nine patch. She selected the pattern she wanted me to do it in and opted for the fluffy look with a poly batting. Not an easy undertaking on the long arm. I think it turned out pretty good. I only had one goof up. One row was a little closer than it should have been. Don't know how that happened unless I accidently moved the laser. I warned her up front that I was just learning. And, I am only charging her $50.00. Would you say that was a fair price? I used a shade of orange thread to compliment the rust colored fabric and to show up on the back. What do you think?

I think you did a fantastic job quilting this quilt. The quilt pattern is really interesting and I think the quilter did a wonderful job on the top! It reminds me of vintage quilt tops.

Mariposa 11-28-2012 06:34 AM

Both of you have done a great job!! :)

Tartan 11-28-2012 06:44 AM

I think she is very lucky to get it quilted for $50. You did an excellent job!

Donna 66 11-28-2012 06:47 AM

I agree that both you and person that pieced it did a wonderful job. I have no idea what the going rate for quilting is, but that seems very reasonable. Donna

You are showing progress at every post! Your thread choice was perfect. Yes $50.00 was a very fair price( not sure of the size) . I would have been doing the happy dance to have quilting done for that price.

Love your quilting pattern, great job. My grandmother made a improved 9 patch many years ago, I'm in my 60's & she died when I was 20.

QuiltnNan 11-28-2012 06:57 AM

terrific job by the quilter and the piecer!

granny 9 11-28-2012 07:38 AM

Very nice job. pretty top.

lallyann 11-28-2012 08:55 AM

It's beautiful! You were kind to work with the fluffy batting! My long-arm quilter won't use it because it doesn't play well with her long arm machine. Someday I want a fluffy quilt though! You did a fabulous job!!

terri bb 11-28-2012 08:59 AM

i love that quilt pattern but not so thrilled with the rust. can you ask her for that pattern for me? that would be a cute one to piece one for me one for you and help with the stash elimination stuff here! as far as your quilting goes, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! you are doing fantastic! i like the way the leaves look on the backside. you are going to be a pro in no time and with every one you get better and better! i think this investment will pay off for you (im sure a bus ticket would pay off for ME!) trying to talk the hubband into coming to arkansas from idaho is like trying to tell a child that vegetables taste good! :)

I think your quilting looks great. You must be learning quickly. I have paid about $80 for the last two lap-sized quilts that I had done, so I think your rate is very fair, especially if the quilt is larger than lap-sized.

sniktasemaj 11-28-2012 09:45 AM

It looks nice. She got a good deal

RedGarnet222 11-28-2012 09:47 AM

Oh my! You did a fantastic job on it. Fifty dollars was a give-away price for this quilting.

GailG 11-28-2012 09:49 AM

Well!! You go, Girlie!! Awesome job! It's no wonder we have no time to chat! hahaha Go up on that price next time.

4EVERquilt 11-28-2012 09:56 AM

awesome looking quilt!!

debcavan 11-28-2012 10:01 AM

puffy poly, hard to work with. You have my admiration for doing it. Sometimes the laser light does get hit.

mighty 11-28-2012 10:27 AM

Great job by both of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

broomstix 11-28-2012 10:31 AM

Beautifully done. top is heirloom quaility.

Sapphire_Rae 11-28-2012 10:51 AM

Quilting is great!! Good job.

patsynel 11-28-2012 12:55 PM

I think the lady got a big time bargain. The quilting looks great and you need to consider raising your prices.

Jingle 11-28-2012 01:49 PM

I think you both did a wonderful job and your price sounds good to me.

Jackie Spencer 11-28-2012 03:47 PM

allie1448 11-30-2012 04:14 AM

Great work and your price is very fair.

quilter68 11-30-2012 06:13 AM

You did very well and that was 'A Merry Christmas' price. It is a CUTE quilt!

margie77072 11-30-2012 06:42 AM

Awesome quilt top and I love your quilting design. Without knowing the size I can't truly say if $50 was a fair price. You should have charged more, IMHO, especially since you worked with "fluffy" batting which I understand is a pain to work with regardless of method of quilting.

carolynjo 11-30-2012 07:51 AM

What a lovely quilt and excellent quilting.

May in Jersey 11-30-2012 07:54 AM

Great job with the quilting and you only charged $50. Wish you lived closer I'd send you a bunch and would pay more than that. May

MimiBug123 11-30-2012 08:04 AM

Wonderful job by both of you!

butterflies5518 11-30-2012 12:26 PM

Great job - very pretty quilt.

My time 11-30-2012 01:16 PM

Gotta say I like your quilting but not a fan of the puffy batting. For a beginner your doing great. $50 is a great buy!

The lady that sold me my machine said that she will not use the fluffy batting either. But, I seem to be able to use it without any problem. I like the fluffiness instead of the flat look. Thanks for the compliment!!

LoisM 11-30-2012 02:27 PM

You're quilting is beautiful! I love it.

Pete 11-30-2012 02:34 PM

I quickly looked to see if you lived near me -- I was going to bring you a lot of quilts for $50. She got a great deal and you did a wonderful job! Price yourself higher next time.

Postage isn't that bad! The reason I charged so little is because I am still new to long arm quilting and I'm not perfect yet. I let them know this up front. If they are willing to chance it, then I do the best job I can at a good price. When I get really good, then the price will go up. I don't want anybody to be disappointed.

KathyPhillips 11-30-2012 04:04 PM

This is beautiful!! Great quilting! This was one of my Mother's favorite patterns. It is pretty in the different fabrics--scrappy.
