I still haven't gotten a picture of the recipient with the quilt. But I did take some before I sent it away.
I started these blocks simply as something to keep me busy while I was recuperating from aneurysm surgery. Since it was the aorta I couldn't lay down while my DD was at work because I wouldn't have been able to get up by myself . So I pretty much spent 3 or 4 weeks in a chair. So I started this. Some of the blocks are my own design, some are taken from copies of old patterns I had. I started it in 2002 and just finished it this year.
Now the recipient is a girl that my son should have married if he had any brains. She is also the mother of one of my granddaughters. So the quilt will eventually go to my GD . I love this girl as if she were my own daughter. She is studying to be a nurse and raise 2 little girls. And yes she got married to a guy long before the second came along but he turned into a jerk a couple of years ago for some reason. Any way maybe too much info but I didn't want anyone to think badly of her she is a wonderful girl.

That is gorgeous! Sometimes our kids just don't use their common sense, do they? I hope you are recuperating and doing well.

Maggie_Sue 04-08-2011 03:52 AM

oh yes that surgery was in 2002 and I had a second in 2009. That second time was a doozy. or so they tell me I was asleep for both surgeries this time. lol All my organs are now attached to my femoral artery& the aorta is all stents. That took them 2 days. :-)

And no they don't . Wouldn't it be nice if they actually learned from their mistakes (and ours) :-)

Wow, what beautiful work! It's funny how families end up, with people from here and there; sounds like you know how to build and keep one!

Thanks for the compliment but look up disfunctional in the dictionary and that is my family in all capital letters.:-) The only thing I can keep together is my quilt pieces. :-)

Gorgeous applique! I love the colors you've used. Kudos to you for being so productive during your recuperation. If it were me, I'd keep the quilt for myself. But that's just me.

Well when I was making it that was the intention. However Kristie made the trip from KS to GA with my GD so I could finally meet her. I had a couple of tops done and asked her which one she wanted. She picked this one. Sooo.. took me quite awhile but it got done.

That is a gorgeous quilt. Your description of this girl sounds like me when I was young....wrong relationships at the wrong time. But she sounds like she has her head on straight. Good for her, and what a wonderful quilt she is getting!!

SueSew 04-08-2011 10:12 AM

That is lovely. More power to you for using your sick time to think of those in your family who need you. None of us can plan out lives for the next generations, but it is truly heartbreaking when they go off the track, and wonderful of you to have a big enough heart to encompass it all. I hope you feel better soon.

boohoofish 04-08-2011 10:14 AM

Beautiful quilt - lots of love put into it. I am sure she really appreciated the gift. And a wonderful treasure for your granddaughter in the years to come. Keep up the good work. Carol

Gorgeous quilt

Suzi 04-09-2011 04:35 AM

The quilt is lovely and who would ever think badly of a young woman who is now raising 2 daughters and going to school to be a nurse? Kudos to her!!! Am happy you got to meet your GD and hope you share in her growing up. Take care of yourself and go s-l-o-w. Recovery takes awhile (but, you already know that).

dinlauren 04-09-2011 04:59 AM
