What a great quilt! It looks like something Bonnie Hunter would do with her shirt fabrics. There is something so charming about all the different patterns and plaid/checks.

Central Ohio Quilter 12-22-2012 07:25 PM

I love your quilt! I have also collected about a zillion shirts to make a quilt from. I am inspired by yours!

Grandma Bonnie 12-22-2012 07:54 PM

hopetoquilt 12-23-2012 03:43 AM

I love it. I could not toss my husbands expensive shirts with rips in the elbows. I have 2 quilts made so far.

gsbuffalo 12-23-2012 04:30 AM

beautifully done

ljptexas 12-23-2012 04:57 AM

Beautiful!!! Love stars! I'm making 12" block stars for my oldest GS. who's now in 10th. Hope I can finish it in 2 yrs. Then the next year, his bro & my oldest GD graduate. SO hopefully I'm getting a good enough head start? Boys are sooo hard to decide for so I went with stars (some included pieces from their PawPaw's shirts, he passed 11yrs ago, they barely remember him). Then next yr another GD, 2 yr rest, then GD, 2 yrs later another GD, then 2 yrs the baby GD. But girls are noooo problem.....

mighty 12-23-2012 08:23 AM

Great job!!!!!

Greenheron 12-23-2012 08:40 AM

Your quilt is an inspiration. I keep ripping and pressing and stacking those old shirts but that's as far as I've gotten.

The blues look like the chambray shirts my dad often wore in the 50's and 60's. Great looking quilt.

I have started buying "collecting" men's shirts from the charity shops recently in readiness to start a quilt with a sea dide feel to it. Living in Cornwall the sea is always close by. I have gone for mostly blue checks and will use off white/ivory to give a "cottage", sun lounge feel. Many plans in my head, we will see how I get on.

javin22 12-23-2012 10:38 AM

I love to recycle! That looks great!

That's what I used for the setting squares. You can see the outline of a pocket on one of the top triangles.

JJean 12-23-2012 01:30 PM

Wow! I love it! Wonderful quilt!

wanttobe 12-23-2012 01:50 PM

Anxious to see this-blue's my favorite color.
Paper Princess--now I see the pockets. Thanks for sharing.
My 9 yo GD and I just sewed a simple quilt with her GGpa's shirts; mostly plaids. We tied it and gave it to my SIL. Naturally made her cry to have this part of her dad with her. Made GD feel good to give of herself too.

sniktasemaj 12-24-2012 05:00 PM

It is very nice. Who is it for?

Ioftheneedle 01-03-2013 10:10 PM

I love, love your quilt. I am collecting fabric from mens shirts found at thrift stores. I am kind of picky but there are a lot of nice fabrics in shirts out there in Goodwill, Salvation Army and thrift stores. Thanks for posting.

TacoMama 01-03-2013 10:16 PM

I love it! You did a great job. I have some shirts to make into quilts, also. Thanks for posting!

Ioftheneedle 01-04-2013 02:53 PM

Yes, this is my favorite of them all.

Ioftheneedle 01-12-2013 05:06 PM

I keep coming back to look at this again and again. I really like it.

Ioftheneedle 01-22-2013 08:07 PM

I keep coming back to look at this quilt. What is the pattern and is it available to order? I am slowly gaining on my stash. I was so surprised last week at the Salvation Army to see the prices. A long sleeve 100% cotton, quality shirt was going for over $10.00 lesser were $6.50. Is this the new trend of the economy? I'm pleased I started my stash sooner.

daisydebby 01-22-2013 08:21 PM

It's looking great!!! Will be loved for sure:)

EmiliasNana 01-22-2013 08:41 PM

I absolutely love this. Looks almost like it was made from homespun fabrics. Great recycling.

showmehow 01-22-2013 08:51 PM

I saw a log cabin done entirely from plaid shirts and fell in love. Recycling is great.

Thanks for all your kind comments. There was no pattern. It's just a sawtooth star. The large one finishes at 8", and the little ones finish at 4". I just stuck the small ones inside some of the larger ones. I'm flying geese challenged, so instead of using them for the points, I made half square triangles. I think the sashing finished at 1". I do remember that it took 2 chambray shirts for the sashing and setting triangles. If you need more info, let me know.
Wow, I can't believe the thrift store shirt prices there. I can still get 5 shirts for $5, but I'm trying to cut back ;-)

gabeway 01-23-2013 08:03 AM

Great job!

denveremerson 01-23-2013 02:11 PM

That looks great. Mmmmm. I'll have to try that.
