Another Scrap Quilt

2 Attachment(s)
I just finished another quilt using 2.5" scraps to make log cabin blocks. Here is a tutorial on how I constructed the blocks:

http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...k-t275789.html

These blocks were all constructed mindlessly as "leaders and enders" while working on another quilt. I was able to use up two more fabrics in my stash for the sashing... yay!

This was the first time that I have quilted an allover pattern... sort of meandering feathers starting in the middle without planning anything in advance... That gave me practice in quilting feathers, but IT WAS SO BORING!... I don't think I'll do that again. Planning out a quilt pattern is much more interesting.

Pretty quilt and quilting!

Love this idea!!! I am always looking for something to control that never ending scrap population....

I sure do like the log cabin of 2.5" candies . I must try it sometime. Good job!!

Great scrappie, Jenn! Wish I had your talent for machine quilting, too.

I like your quilt. Pretty scrappy.

mucky 09-10-2016 03:33 PM

I have enough 2 1/2" squares to do this. Wonder what it would be like without the sashing?

Look at the tutorial for an example of one without the sashing...

The quilting may have been boring to do but wow, it sure added a lot of oomph to the finished product! Great job.

Very pretty and I did like your quilting pattern.

Yooper32 09-11-2016 05:41 AM

I am so envious of people like you who can just envision and construct a new pattern and come up with a great looking quilt, like nobody else's. Love your quilt.

EmiliasNana 09-11-2016 05:55 AM

Love your idea. Thanks for the tutorial and pics. Everyone needs scrap busters and these are fantastic in spite of my OCD tendency to organize by color. The white gives it order. Your quilting, though boring to you, is fantastic. I feel the same way when I am doing an overall on my mid-arm. It seems like the quilt keeps growing and I will never finish quilting it.

Love your scrappy. Kudos for practicing feathers. That's something I really want to do but have never gotten into the groove. Great scrapbuster.

Evie 09-11-2016 06:43 AM

Nice scrappy. And I like the two different sashing fabrics.

Another great use of scrap squares...I can see this done with blue and white squares using red sashing as a QOV quilt...nice job and thanks.

lynnie 09-11-2016 11:01 AM

all those small squares!!!! such a pretty quilt, lovely quilting too.

Rose Bagwell 09-11-2016 12:24 PM

Very nice way of getting rid of scraps and beautiful quilt/job.

carolynjo 09-11-2016 01:12 PM

That's a very pretty quilt and what a way to use up scraps.

oksewglad 09-11-2016 02:51 PM

I have been saving my 2 1/5" red, blue and cream/white strips and squares in one bin...I just cut the logs from from scrap star fabric with one wof strip left over..hope I counted correctly, but if not I have a little bit to spare...now to pair up the blue and neutral squares...plan to cut the sashes from yardage and then find a border fabric...thanks again for your inspiration..

I really like your tut for this and the way you use your 2 1/2 inch scraps. I do leaders and enders too but this pattern can use mediums. Otherwise I am always trying to do lights and darks but then I have all these mediums piling up. Great way to use up those mediums! Thanks for sharing your pattern and I love your feathers, doesn't look boring to me.

Levels your quilt and quilting.
