After seeing all of the lovely vintage machines posted, I have wanted one. But, I've never seen one in this area outside of pricey featherweights. I decided to wander around a local antique mall, and spotted this about a month ago. It was $100 so I passed. Today I went back, and the price was marked down to $78. I debated and debated, and on my 4th or 5th time passing by it someone came and hung up a 25% off sign in the booth! I decided it was meant to be! It needs to be "officially" cleaned, but it has all the parts and no rust anywhere! The case it sits in is really the only place showing any wear and tear. I'm a little scared to plug it in, so my husband will have to check the wiring, but I was so excited I just had to post pictures!

It's a 99, made in New Jersey in 1956 - 3 years before my mom was born :) Please ignore the messy table (courtesy of my 2 year old)

Pretty machine!

Its so nice to bring a baby home

fleurdelisquilts.com 09-15-2011 06:35 PM

Oh, she's a darling. Enjoy, and hope all is well with the wiring. Why is it okay for our husbands to plug in electrical wires when we're scared? I do the same thing...let him take the zap! And yes, I do love him.

PatchGirl 09-15-2011 06:38 PM

My Mother had one exactly like this one and sewed on it for years!

Looks like a dandy to me!

mom-6 09-15-2011 08:43 PM

Wish I still had my mom's. Only difference was the shape of the stitch length lever. Great machine. Will sew just about anything. I "helped" hem cuptowels sitting on mom's lap about 1950 or so. Made many of my own clothes in HS, including a prom dress. Then years later made my kids costumes, covered my couch, etc. You'll not be sorry you got that beauty.

vintagemotif 09-15-2011 09:03 PM

Congrats! It was meant to be!!! Enjoy your new vintage machine!

Nanamoms 09-15-2011 11:17 PM

Great Deal! She looks great!

katier825 09-16-2011 12:53 AM

That's a nice find. It's always good to have the electrical checked on the older machines. I was given a 201 that someone wanted out of their house. I cost me less than $100 to have it cleaned, rewired, new foot pedal. I thought it was well worth the money.

jansquiltn 09-16-2011 01:30 AM

Enjoy her she's beautiful. My brother found mine for $50.

AlwaysQuilting 09-16-2011 02:54 AM

Lucky you! I'm still looking for one I can adopt.

Looks like a great find and the $$ was right. Congrats!

cindit 09-16-2011 04:21 AM

I probably have it's twin sister - made in NJ in 1956 - and I LOVE it!! It's the machine I use first, unless I'm garment sewing. Congrats, you'll not reqret it. Oh, I got mine this past summer on craigslist. It was listed for $100 and I got it for $90. Best $90 I ever spent!

Stitchnripper 09-16-2011 04:35 AM

Nice machine! Have fun with it!!

GABBYABBY 09-16-2011 05:26 AM

love it!!!

Jingle 09-16-2011 05:46 AM

Very pretty, enjoy using it. Great deal also.

mymsmess 09-16-2011 05:53 AM

If it were me, I couldn't wait to plug her in and I would have to do it myself. I NEVER let hubby mess with my machines. He knows better!

rwillig 09-16-2011 06:07 AM

I have one and love it! It is currently on loan to my niece on the understanding that it comes back to me when she gets a newer one. It truly is an old faithful! I still use it when I am working on upholstery for my DH.

Becky Mc 09-16-2011 06:21 AM

I had one just like that when I first started sewing in the same case. I made so much on that machine I wished I still had it but back then you didn't think about keeping old stuff when you got new. Doll clothes, dd clothes,ds clothes, clothes for me, shirts for hubby, curtians wow that picture brings back memories!!!!!

bluebird 09-16-2011 06:21 AM

Jen, you have an absolute workhorse! Makes a beautiful stitch. Got mine when I learned to sew in 7-8 grade. Made my graduation dress on it. Still have it and wouldn't part with it for any amount of $$ Make sure she's clean and oiled, you will love her.

bluebird 09-16-2011 06:24 AM

Sorry 'bout that

cjaye44 09-16-2011 06:35 AM
