I haven't but I sure think it's cute. Too bad I'm too dumb to figure it out. Anybody out there know anything about this cutie?

Well...it looks like a combo of a 9 patch and a snow-ball. It is cute!

Snowball block with 9 patch in between them is what it looks like to me

9 patch and snowballs - the cream is the "snowball" corners and the "X" part of the 9-patch.

looks like too many 'Y' intersections for my tastes {giggle}

Whatever it is, its pretty! I do see the nine patches and I think the other is the snowball. Mixed the way they are, it looks awesome.

What a lovely quilt!
Do you know anything about it's story?

... when you look at the way the seams are puffed ... it almost looks like the large colours and background are put together in a simple block form. And then the 9Ps added after, looking as though they are appliqued on.

And agreed ... snowballs with 9Ps would do the job with all set on point.

There are no Y intersections on this quilt. It is all straight seams and just sewing squares. The snowball block can easily be done putting a square in each corner and sewing on the diagonal. There is also a bit of applique in the borders.

It's not a regular snowball with the 9Ps added.

More than likely it is just lack of good pressing during the construction. If the maker did assemble it the way you suggest that made it a ton more work than it needed to be. The same look can definitely be achieved by alternating a simple 9 patch a with a simple snowball. The only applique I see are the leaf shapes in the border that overlap on to the blocks along the outer edge.
