Here's a picture of the one I made a couple years ago. I have fabric for another and will get started on it soon. I just love the way these go together and how different each one looks.

rosemaynes 10-04-2010 07:22 AM

I love it. That is the next quilt that I plan on doing. So is it hard to do?

bailey 10-04-2010 07:29 AM

Love it! Looks like a garden. Pretty colors too.

gaigai 10-04-2010 07:31 AM

That is one of the prettiest OBW's I've seen. It truly does look like a garden. Do you have some of the original fabric you can show us?

luv-e 10-04-2010 07:34 AM

Looks like a beautiful painting. I ,also ,would like to see the material.

Thanks everyone! The original fabric is in the outside border, shown in the second photo in my original post :)

I's beautiful and love how you have designed it. Are these in blocks ? Rosalie

The pattern itself is very easy. The part that takes the longest is arranging the blocks and figuring out where they look the best. I literally sat across the room from my design wall with a laser light. My hubby and daughter were standing by the design wall, and I would use the laser to point to blocks I wanted moved, and then point to where I wanted them moved; I got a better perspective that way, as it was just too hard to see the best placement from up close.

gaigai 10-04-2010 07:41 AM

That is absolutely perfect fabric for an OBW. Do you know the name & maker? I'm already to do a search if you do! LOL

This pattern actually consists of rows of triangles. The book is called "One Block Wonders," and she has at least one more called "One Block Wonders Encore!," which I haven't gotten yet.

I honestly have no idea. I bought it at a local Hancock's at least 2, if not 3, years ago.

DebraK 10-04-2010 07:53 AM

That's a beauty. I have one with the blocks all made, I just have to arrange it and sew togethers.

oldswimmer 10-04-2010 08:02 AM

OMG! That is so beautiful...looks like a Monet painting.
I love it! I havent tried the OBW but its on my list. I think that is one of the prettiest that I have seen. Very inspirational!

I just have to say... your placement of the blocks is truly what makes it so wonderful (for me anyway) I like the blocks that have the smaller orangy red centers that look like individual flowers at the top... and then it goes into the blend in the bottom that looks like a real garden area! Just fantastic!

katier825 10-04-2010 08:07 AM

It's beautiful! I haven't made one but do admire many that I've seen. :)

T-Bones mom 10-04-2010 08:32 AM

What an ingenious way to lay out your blocks. Would never have thought of that. Wonder if my husband and daughter would be so cooperative.

amma 10-04-2010 08:51 AM

Beautiful! I love the fabric and your block placements :D:D:D
Mine is still awaiting borders LOL check out the virtual section of the board... there is a section just for these

Where those water color fabrics ? The way the quilt turned out it looks like it may be. It is just beautiful.

This pattern actually consists of rows of triangles. The book is called "One Block Wonders," and she has at least one more called "One Block Wonders Encore!," which I haven't gotten yet.
And there is a third "One Block Wonders Cubed".
I've made nine of them so far, and about to finish off the latest.
They are all posted in the Virtual Section.

I'd like to know how much fabric one buys to make a OBW like this? It is stunning and I can't wait to try it.

hperttula123 10-04-2010 06:48 PM

awesome....I've never made one, but would love to.

Ditter43 10-04-2010 06:55 PM

I love the way you graduated the colors...it looks like a flower garden! Great work. I want to do one but haven't found the right fabric yet. I seem to look at every new fabric with that in mind. The one I really would like to use, I don't have enough of..... ;-)

You'd have to get the book and find out how many repeats you need, which also depends on what size quilt you want to make. Mine is more suited to a wall hanging, which is what I was aiming for, but I can't remember the amount of yardage I bought and don't know where the book is at the moment :)

Gramof6 10-04-2010 07:46 PM

Gorgeous! You certainly did a wonderful job! Love it. Thanks for sharing.

I have fabric for another one. This fabric is pretty much just black and cream and has repeats of various jungle animals, including big cats, elephants, etc. I think it will make a nice monochromatic OBW, at least I hope it does! LOL

trisha 10-04-2010 07:58 PM

I have all three OBW books sitting right here. Got them all from the library. And thanks for reminding me, I have to renew them again tomorrow. Love the quilts, and love yours.

It takes six repeats of the fabric pattern to make the OBW. You stack the fabric so that the pattern is identical in each layer. Then you cut strips, typically 3.5 inches, then cut the strip layers into 60 degree triangles. Each triangle will be identical, making the kaleidoscope pattern.

Kyiav10 10-04-2010 10:53 PM

I also love OBW. I am on my second. Well, it's a piecing project right now. But I see very many in my future! Great work on yours.

Beautiful! I love the way you've placed the blocks - like flowers against a summer sky. And this thread is now IN the aforementioned Virtual Section. :D

norinedora 10-06-2010 02:28 AM

I first saw OBW quilts on this board & became obsessed. I bought the books (online from England for $30 total) and found fabric I wanted to use. I can't wait to start them. Yours is just beautiful; very nice work.

kpelletier83 10-06-2010 02:31 AM

Wow can I borrow your helpers? I get exhausted running back and forth moving my blocks around.
Beautiful quilt btw.

finch 10-06-2010 04:17 AM
