I really wanted to learn how to do needle turn applique. I still really want to learn to do needle turn applique - but faster! This project was started 5 years ago! The top is finally done! This is a step-by-step learning project found in
The New Applique Sampler: Learn to Applique, the Piece O' Cake Way. They give excellent directions. Very clear and precise. I'm just a slow learner, I think! I'm so sick of this thing I don't even want to quilt it. I have no idea how to even begin quilting it. I already have a redwork quilt on the frame for hand quilting. I'm not sure I'm at all up to doing hand or machine quilting on this thing. I guess it'll have to go back into storage for another 5 years! Ha! First try at needle turn applique |
Oh don't put it away again! It is beautiful, I love the fabrics too. Can you send it out to be quilted?
Its absolutely gorgeous
WOW!!!!!!!  I LOVE it!!!!!! Don't you dare put it in hiding!!! If you don't want to quilt it by hand or machine, send that beauty off to a LAQ!!!!  It's much too gorgeous not to be seen and appreciated!!

Beautiful quilt!
It looks beautiful.
Great job! Very pretty quilt.
Oh but it is so pretty  Maybe put it away and let it go for a bit - give yourself time to fall back in love with it
it's beautiful!

Gorgeous quilt!!!
With that kind of applique (larger pieces), I much prefer doing it by machine -- so much faster, and looks almost the same. My favorite kind of applique is invisible machine applique using freezer paper. Learned how to do it from an earlier edition of Harriet Hargrave's book: http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Mach.../dp/157120136X I tried needleturn applique and got a few blocks done, but realized that my hands cramp up awfully fast when I do it. Think it has something to do with the shape of my fingers and hands. |
I am sorry you are sick of this quilt. You did a wonderful job , it is beautiful. I love to applique and for your first project you did a great job. Love the colors.
Stunning
I agree with the rest. Don't hide it. Just set aside for awhile. When you've gotten through a couple of projects you can pick up again with a fresh attitude!
PS: I love your avatar. Did you make that? It's beautiful! With your caliber of work, you can be proud of everything you make.
Your quilt turned out so beautiful. Can understand why you want to put it away but it should be completed and shown to everyone.
I LOVE applique-usually do freezer paper or fusible-haven't had much luck with my earlier tries at needle-turn-but then, I was doing it with small flowers-much harder I think. Anyway, you did a FANTASTIC job and it is too beautiful to put away. The easiest way to quilt it (I think since you did all that work on the applique, you should quilt it-but that's just me. It would be easiest to just quilt around all the applique pieces-and doing it on the machine with clear thread (monofilament) would be the fastest. Get your present quilt finished since it is on your frame and you need a break from this-but PLEASE finish it!
To pretty to be put in waiting again.
What a pretty quilt! I am sure you will get suggestions from other board members on quilting it. It took you so long, it would be a shame not to display/use it. I am a slow quilter as well. I guess I am a turtle as opposed to the hare! LOL
It's beautiful. Figure out a place for it to be displayed and then get it quilted. It deserves to be shown.
Finish it up if even if you send it to someone to quilt for you! It is really a lovely quilt! Too pretty to be stored away unfinished.
I think it is beautiful. Don't put it back. You did a great job.
What a great job for your first stab(haha) at this. Love it.
Cute! It looks like a Piece o' Cake design, was it? Perhaps looking at some of their finished quilts would give you some idea of how to quilt it.

It's beautiful.
I tend to avoid applique. |
What a beautiful quilt, I love the colors, you should have it quilted and display it with pride.

You all are so very encouraging. Thank you for that. I promise that I will eventually get this finished and hanging in our house. I have considered sending it out to be quilted but I have never (so far) been able to let someone else work on one of my 'darlings'. It's my quirk! But I'm working up to letting someone else deal with this one.
I have bought a few new quilting books, including the one recommended earlier here. I need to sit down and do some serious reading. Then I'll decide what I'm going to do. Meanwhile, the top is in a safe place waiting with one other finished top. |
Such a happy quilt! Don't put it away. Send it out to be machine quilted and then enjoy it. It is beautiful.

Lovely quilt. I love your bright colors
It is beautiful. I would quilt it and hang it on the wall for everyone to see.
I love this Happy Quilt.
Beautiful work.
I love your quilt it is beautiful. Take a break from it for a short while or send it to a longarmer to be quilted and please show pics when done.
That is way to pretty to be packed away. You could stipple when there is no applique.
It is beautiful. If you can, send it out, send it out. Ask; there are Board members who quilt. Please don't hide her! (I've started a change jar for just that purpose---if I ever finish a top!)

This quilt is very similar to one that I made also by Piece o Cake designs. My first needle turn project. It was in 1999 that I started the first block and 2009 when I finished putting the last stitch and had it quilted. I know how you feel, but please don't give up. I entered it in the county fair and it won a blue ribbon. In it, I could see the progress and improvement between my first couple of blocks and the last one. I learned a lot. Please persevere.

I love these quilts! I've done a couple by Piece 'o Cake. Echo quilting looks nice and is easy and fast to do. Keep at it. It's worth it. Beautiful job!
