Would someone be willing to post up-close pictures of their applique? I'm trying to figure out if what I imagine it looks like is really what it looks like.

Thanks

Lady-T, what does raw edge applique mean? Also, is blanket stitch done with your machine?

I see you're in Iowa...me too!!!

sharon b 01-11-2011 02:21 PM

Here is my tute on Raw edge applique : http://static.quiltingboard.com/uplo...lique_tute.pdf

scroll all the way down and you will see some different stitches for raw edge

Lady-T 01-11-2011 02:23 PM

In raw edge applique the appliqued pieces do not have the edges turned under.

They are usually applied with fusible web and the sewn around the edges,
You can do a multi-stitch free-motion zig-zaggy motion over the edges, satin-stitch,

or a straight stitch 1/8-1/4" inside the raw edge to encourage frayed edges
(like on my leaves)

You can do a blanket stitch with your machine bnut on the Christmas piece I did mine by hand.

Not sure where Sully is...? I'm over by Ft Madison

Sully is about 50 miles east of Des Moines, just off I-80.

This hand applique is beautiful! I like handwork therefore I love needle-turn applique. Stitches are hidden in the folded edges of the applique piece about 1/8th inch apart. On the back it will look like tiny little running stitches. Sorry I don't have a picture to post but hope this helps.

I'm not really sure. Someone mentioned that one of the months in the House BOM will be applique. I'm trying to get prepared. :)

Here is one of the 12 Nutcrackers I'm working on for my DGD's quilt. I have 9 of them finished and took time off to join the Row Robin and Farmer's Wife Quilt before working on the last 3. I appliqued the Mouse King using a very narrow satin stitch. Hope this helps. Belles

Beautiful examples of different types of applique! Congratulations to all. My personal favorite is needle-turn but I'm about to try fusible with a tiny zigzag stitch around the edges. I'm told we have to "get out of the box" once in awhile.
