I am trying to sew the binding down on the back, it is very
difficult with my QI getting in the middle of everything for a nap!!! Does anyone else have this problem??

I think he likes this one!!!! I need to finish it though.

I like how the white appears to radiate light from the cross. Very inspirational and beautiful.

Rachel 03-25-2010 05:44 AM

Oh your WIP is fabulous. Yes, I have the same issues with my QI, although I've at least got her to sit on my lap, under the quilt when I'm trying to bind it (that's an improvement). tee hee

fun2quilt 03-25-2010 05:46 AM

Thanks. I am glad it turned out the way it was supposed to.
An Easter gift for my mil.

fun2quilt 03-25-2010 05:48 AM

If he lays under it, he attacks every movement on top, much prefer him where he is. He just loves getting in the middle and covered up by quilts!! Just look at my avatar:)

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 03-25-2010 06:09 AM

Your quilt will be beautiful if you can ever get your "helper" to let you finish!

thequilterslink 03-25-2010 06:34 AM

Beautiful quilt! Your MIL will love it. we have 5 cats that love quilts...sigh

raptureready 03-25-2010 06:45 AM

I love your quilt. I bought some old blocks from a garage sale and while working with them I started sneezing, my nose and eyes started itching, and I realized that several had cat hair on them. The worst ones I had to put in a plastic bag and throw away but some heavy doses of Benedryl got me through the rest. Now I just take it before I'm going to work on them. I can't wait to the quilt done so that I can wash it. To all cat lovers I apologize but I just can't imagine letting a cat on my quilts. BAD allergies.

Ditter43 03-25-2010 08:10 AM

No wonder your QI doesn't want to move!! He is inspired by your beautiful quilt!! Good job!! Cute kitty too!! I sure miss my cats!!

Ditter

Bribe him with cat treats? Or just wait him out.

Chasing Hawk 03-25-2010 08:39 AM

I distract Kola with a purple tennis ball I keep in my sewing room.

Rose Marie 03-25-2010 08:52 AM

My cats love quilts and especially flannel ones.
I have to lock them out of the sewing room or it is a disaster waiting to happen.
One in particular (my avatar) likes to snag my fabrics and drag them around the house. They become his lovey's.

fun2quilt 03-25-2010 10:04 AM

He doesn't normally interfer with quilting. Sometimes he just decides that he wants a perticular one and wont leave it alone, even when it is being sewed, he pops up from in back of the machine, doesn't try to get the needle though. Guess he needs another one to himself, he has already claimed at least two. And he likes to eat the batting, but only the cotton, have to keep it put up so he can't get into it. What would we do without their love:~)??!!??

Jingle 03-25-2010 10:43 AM

I only have one that likes to be a pest, I have a large carrier I have put him in when he gets in the way. I tell him if he don't leave me alone I will put him in the cage, finally he is understanding what I'm saying and he goes off. I don't get a lot of sewing time and I want to get going on whatever I'm working on. He is 3 going on 4.

1quilt_gma 03-25-2010 10:45 AM

I like the colors! Beautiful.

BKinCO 03-25-2010 11:02 AM

I just had a 50 lb QI trying to help me put on the binding....not very helpful, are they? Love the quilt, by the way!

Boston1954 03-25-2010 11:08 AM

I have six quilt inspectors, and every once in a while, one of them jumps directly in the middle of the hoop when I am hand quilting. I cuddle them for a couple minutes and take them over to the bed or couch and see if they will stay.

sunflower126 03-25-2010 11:54 AM

I used to have that problem, wish I still did. Hubby says no more kitties, we have had to put two of them to sleep and he just can't deal with that anymore. We become way too attached. Mine used to sit and swat at the thread as I would sew or swat at the needle.

SUSAN 03-25-2010 12:18 PM

I have a kitty like him, about 3 years old. Gets in the middle of everything. He isn't the only one, I have another who thinks his place is to sit on the ironing board when I'm working on blocks. Crazy cats. Love them though!!
I love your WIP---beautiful!!

dkabasketlady 03-25-2010 07:32 PM

Don't sweat the small stuff with your gorgeous QI, I just had to put one of mine to sleep a few weeks ago and would give anything to have him back wanting to help me! Beautiful quilt also!

littlehud 03-25-2010 07:38 PM

That is a beautiful quilt. And the quilt inspector has inspected it and it passes that test.

So sorry for your loss, I have had to do that before, it doesn't get any easier. I have a yorkie who is 14, not looking forward to that moment.
I think I will make a couple more of the quilt, it really isn't all that hard to make, it is just alot of cutting- postage stamp blocks.

fun2quilt 03-26-2010 06:27 AM

Its funny, sometimes he totally ignores a quilt and others I can't keep him off of it, even in the very beginning, crazy cat.

Thanks everyone, so glad you like my quilt. I am thinking of making several more. I love the designer, have done serveral of her quilts. Although this is the first pattern I have ever purchased. check it out at : [www.lucyfazely.com]

Gal 03-26-2010 07:26 AM

This is so beautiful, sometimes I think working with symbols can be difficult but you have really pulled this one off! Well done!

Gal

Ditto.

Oklahoma Suzie 03-26-2010 02:05 PM

my cat is not allowed to be near my sewing.

sylvia77 03-26-2010 02:06 PM

My kitty is the same way. She will curl up on my quilt that I'm machine quilting and boy! does she ever get mad when I make her get off so I can quilt. She also takes off with my cleaning brush and I find them downstairs under the couch. I love her dearly and wouldn't have it any other way!

retired teacher 03-26-2010 02:12 PM

Be thanlful he isn't an elephant! (:

damaquilts 03-27-2010 05:17 AM

My DD's cats and dogs have learned what "OUT"!!! means. And since Andy isn't the lap type. I have no problems anymore. We did have a foster kitty, Lydia, for a couple of years and she decided she was my helper. Actually she took over my machine chair and would bite me if I tried to push her out. And she would steal and hide my pin cushions, thimbles, sewing machine feet, anything that was small enough for her to carry. Took some of my cut strips one day and ran through the house with them training behind her. Cracked us up. She is now the only kitty in a house with an elderly woman and her son and being spoiled rotten.

sewcrafty 03-27-2010 06:12 AM

Very nice!!!

Justquilting 03-27-2010 06:29 AM

I have this problem too.
All I have to do is sit with a quilt & I have one dog on my lap & one on the side...under the it while I'm trying to sew a binding.

Don't want it to go too fast so they can enjoy it longer.
They love being under blankie's!!

chris_quilts 03-27-2010 11:04 AM

Beautiful quilt and the QI is lovely as well. My avatar is my QI and he's not as helpful as he thinks he is but I, too, wouldn't have it any other way.

retired teacher 03-27-2010 11:07 AM

I accidently stuck Lily Dog with a needle while putting on a binding last week. She was so shocked - I still feel bad.

quilterj 03-27-2010 11:40 AM

Love it. Do you have a pattern or did you make it up?

I purcharsed the pattern from www.lucyfazely.com

Glad everyone likes it, can't believe how many do. The pattern isn't real hard, just time consuming.I really like this pattern:)

roseOfsharon 03-27-2010 02:30 PM

Cute cat, smart too! Your project is lovely.

dryerlint 03-27-2010 07:16 PM

i have two of cats that think my sewing table top is there territory so got them a basket to sit in while i sew helped for awhile and then they had to start getting closer thought they were gonna get their noses sewed, but now they have discovered how warm it can be while i am trying to do the hand sewing on my quilts sure hope that the person that gets them likes them as much as mr.t and cassanova do

baubo1234 03-28-2010 12:21 AM

I don't have a cat, but I have a conure (small parrot) who likes to help?? in the sewing room, if he is not attacking me when I am cutting fabric, he loves the orange color on my rotary cutter, then he is sitting on the ironing board right beside the iron, don't know why he doesn't burn himself, or else he is sitting on my sewing table watching me sew and pulls off the little red button that removes my presser foot. I finally had to leave it off and just use my finger on that sharp button to change my feet.
But I love him anyway. When he gets into too much trouble, I just put him in a cage that I keep especially in my sewing room just for him.

danmar 03-28-2010 01:01 AM

I love that! It is sooooo pretty! And yes, I have the same problem with my QI! LOL They just want to help.
