This wall hanging is taken from a photo that Hans (my DH) took on a visit to the seaside. It's raw edge pieced with freezer paper templates anf the beach hut section was paper pieced and machine appliqued on. The embellishments are all free motion machine quilted. It measures 9" x 23". Thanks for looking. :-D

The original photo - I used the middle section only.

Wonderful translation... and I love all the texture of the quilting: stones, grass, wood planks. Great work!

beachlady 01-10-2011 06:25 AM

You are so talented. Great recreation - as usual!!

lovingmama 01-10-2011 06:27 AM

It always amazes me when I see something like this. Great job!

k3n 01-10-2011 06:47 AM

Thanks eveyone. These little beach huts are fairly typical in England - Sue, I see you're 'near Camelot' - I'm guessing that's a couple of counties west of me?

Friendly Quilter 01-10-2011 06:50 AM

Wonderful, great job.

Your quilting design is wonderful.
We have nothing like the beach cottage on this side of the Atlantic. I live of the coast of South Carolina USA.

Mariposa 01-10-2011 07:25 AM

These are little huts, no more than 3 or 4 yards square. Ppl sometimes keep a small boat in them, or surfboards, or even just use them to change in. You can rent them by the year for not too much. My Aunt and Uncle had one on our local beach when I was growing up (further east round the coast at Calshot) I remember the distinctive smell when you opened the door - salt and sand combined with damp towels and the faint gassy residue from the camping stove. - Like perfume to me!

:-D

kathy 01-10-2011 08:24 AM

well you sure did a good job.
what are the huts for, why are they so close who owns them and why are they built that way, they kinda look crooked?
that should satisfy me for now! LOL

Murphy 01-10-2011 08:39 AM

They're owned (I think) by the town council and rented out to anyone who wants one. You keep your beach gear in them - surf boards, small boats etc. They're also handy to get changed in or make a cup of tea (you know how we Brits can't go more than a few minutes without a cup of tea, right? ) I don't know why they look crooked, maybe the sticky out overhang bits give that illusion? Or maybe the shingle under them has shifted a bit - they're only made of wood on a slab of concrete base, I don't think they have proper foundations. IN fact, they're just glorified 'sheds'. Cute though! :-D Anymore questions yet?

There is no other smell like ocean and wet sand. I know
I am home with these smells. Like you said it is perfume to the senses.

Okay, I may be totally out in left field here, but I thought you lived in France? Did you move, or am I confused? :)

wolfkitty 01-10-2011 07:43 PM

Great job transferring the picture into the quilt hanging! I love it! Wish we had that sort of thing on this side of the pond. Beautiful work! I love those type of quilts! Lovely quilting, as well!
