On a different thread, maybe even a different forum...or a different universe?...a gal gave a suggestion that I want to try. If you have a machine with a manual start/stop button which allows you to start the needle moving without using the foot pedal, practice using that method of running the machine...it will stay at a steady speed and reduce the stress of coordinating hand and foot. With this technique, you can also set the speed of the machine, if you have that capability, so that it not only is steady, but also runs at the speed with which you are comfortable.

love the pizzle, nice job on the rest.

Boston1954 07-08-2010 11:54 AM

Holy Hannah!! I love them both. They are terrific! Are you making more doggies? Sure would be cute with maybe doggie things like dish, leash, toys, or more different breed scattered around. It came out just great.

lindyline 07-08-2010 02:06 PM

Boston, I'm intending to make more PP collies, have the rough and smooth varieties, and I intend to make a whole quilt of them.We have bred coolies in the past, and my SH loves them

lindyline 07-08-2010 02:06 PM

oops dyslexia again meant DH. keys are too close

Annz 07-08-2010 03:00 PM

Great quilts

quiltmom04 07-08-2010 04:09 PM

You're off to a great start. Looks like a bit of tension problem. Try loosening the top tension a bit. Your smoothness looks great, and that's harder to learn than to adjust the tension. The pp is great - just looks like your pieces could have been a bit larger, but I'm sure you realized that when you were putting it together. Your colors choices. Good job!

Awesome.

Lindy, I love your puzzle quilt. And the FMQ looks fine. It takes a LOT of practice to get really good. (I'm not there yet either! LOL). And I love the Collie!! You do good work. Keep it up. And if you still hate the puzzle quilt, you can send it to me! LOL

lindyline 07-09-2010 12:57 AM

Gaigai, I don't think so. I love the puzzle quilt, just didn't enjoy the journey getting it finished. Sorry.
And there's a long queue in Aust. waiting for it as well.

Holy Cow you couldn't have choose a more difficult subject for your first attempt at paper piecing. It's great! But there is a learning curve with paper piecing. I made a quilt with paper pieced turtles as my first attempt at PP. the first ones took hours and the last ones 15 minutes.
I'm not a fan of free motion either but I think there is a curve there also and I haven't gotten past the learning thing with it. I love the way it looks, just can't seem to get the hand of doing it.

Sassy913 07-26-2010 05:01 PM

Absolutely adore the puzzle piece quilt. Where did you ever find such a wonderful pattern? Looks terrific. And Lassie is amazing. Don't think I have the patience for that kind of work, but it is wonderful.
