Aww, what a mess!
3 Attachment(s)
This little quilt is about right for a full sized bed. The title is "Fleurs sur Lundi bleu" which is French for "Flowers on Blue Monday." I absolutely loved it....yes, past tense. The front story: loved the fabrics, loved the pattern (my own), and loved, loved, loved the quilting. I quilted each square differently using echo quilting, pebbles, stitch in the ditch, feathers, stippling, and shells. Some of these I had never done before, so it was a learning process. I took tons of pictures so I could analyze my process and even wrote a tutorial on binding quilts from some of the pictures.
Then the back story: I put it up to take final pictures and realized just how many mistakes there are. I won't point them all out, but you can see how very off the center is, and it goes downhill from there. One problem was that I had so many interruptions thanks to the holidays that I forgot what I intended to do. Another was shortage of fabrics, which I bought years ago. I discovered later that it's still available online. Ha! Oh well, I learned enough to say it was worth the time and effort, and I'll bet someone will want it. Two of my sisters liked it very much, but that was before I finished it. Thanks for looking, Mary. |
We are out own worst critics - I see a beautiful quilt that anyone would love to own :)
Love your colors also |
It looks great to me! It will look good to you in a few days also once you forget about the boo boos. Fold it up and put it away for a couple of days and then spread it out on your bed. It will look wonderful!

No, I don't see how many mistakes there are. All I see is that the fleurs are not symmetrical, and if you are not like me, that wouldnt bother you in the least. You meant to do it that way; right? I see a lot of work, more than I have time to do, and would be very proud of it.

Looks beautiful from here!!
All I see is a gorgeous quilt. Don't be so hard on yourself. You've been looking at it too long.
It's beautiful. I really don't see anything wrong with it. There is so much to love about it. All of the things you stated and more. I hope you'll re-fall in love/like with it someday. Either way, you gained knowledge. :)

I agree with everyones comments a beautiful quilt with a ton of work put into it. I don't see any mistakes either.
All I see is a beautiful quilt....with lots of visual interest, but calming somehow. Nothing we create is pure perfection, and as the others have said, when you put it aside for awhile and "see" it again, you will feel differently.
It looks awesome,well done.
looks good to me
it looks beautiful to me...

She is right, we are our own worst critics. It was exciting to hear that you feel you have learned a lot doing. Put it away for awhile so you don't see it and thenwhen you bring it back out, you will have a better attitude towards it. You may fall in love again.

I think your quilt is lovely. It might have a few flaws but so what. It adds character!!! I would love to have it on my bed and I'm sure whoever gets it will too.
Beautiful, leave it and if you make it again, try to correct what you think is wrong with this one. Great job on it.
I doubt anyone who snuggles under it will even note the stuff that bothers you. It's like gardening..you can see the weeds -or enjoy the flowers!
This quilt is much more interesting than if everything were "centered". It is very nice and would be welcome in my home. I think you should be very proud of it and not criticize yourself. I would love to be that creative!!!
Thanks for sharing and enjoy your hobby!! ;-) |
It is gorgeous! You are too hard on yourself!
it's beautiful, pass it along if you're not happy with it?,
I think it looks great, like an art quilt. Great job on the quilting.
Alright... I am going to send you a few of my quilt tops and you can make those quilting mistakes all over my quilts and I will ADORE it. Seriously, walk away for a few days and then come back and look at it. You will love it like the rest of us.
Looks beautiful to me and I love your quilting!
Awww, thank yous to everyone for the words of encouragement. I'm still annoyed with myself for the mistakes, but I did enjoy making the quilt; in fact, I loved it all until that last moment when I realized how off center it is. Oh well, such is life!
My sister is a great photographer who offered to photograph my quilts when she comes after Christmas. She saw it on the design board during the summer and really liked it. I'm going to give it to her as a thank you for the photography help. Your comments convinced me that it will make a good gift. Thanks again for the positive feedback. You all are such good friends for challenging me to rethink my work and reminding me why we do this. |
Mary, your quilt is just beautiful. I understand your disappointment when you have enjoyed the whole process and then it doesn't turn out as you had invisioned. I had this happen to a recent project. The quilting on the back looked terrible so I added a second backing (dust cover I called it) and stitched in on and bound it. No one knows my secret.

It is beautiful!!!!!
