Okay so I can't stay on task very long and haven't finished my OBW yet. But a new baby girl is due in our family so I have a good excuse. For those who are not familiar with One Block Wonders, it's a process of lining up and stacking several layers of fabric to get the repeating design in each block. I am addicted and can't seem to make anything else.

So here's my fabric and my first few blocks. I'm really loving these roses and guess I will have to find some for me someday. The fabric color is more accurate in the blocks.

nursie76 09-19-2009 05:42 PM

Absolutely perfect for a precious baby girl! I sooooo want to give the OBW's a go! I did buy some fabric the other day to try, but only go a yard, now I wonder if it is enough for the repeats that it contains. I guess I will only know if I try! Seeing yours certainly is nudging me in that direction, but I don't think I could ever do as beautifully as you.

amma 09-19-2009 11:01 PM

Thanks everyone. Here are all the blocks. I only started with 3 yards of this fabric and it was just enough to get the blocks and have some left over for borders. I'm having trouble getting the layout done though, the color is so soft that it's hard for me to see where to go with them. I would love to find a soft green to work into the border.

reneebobby 09-21-2009 09:04 AM

That is going to be very pretty.

Pats8e8 09-21-2009 11:54 AM

I give, what is an OBW? OH BOY, WOW???

Shemjo 09-21-2009 01:25 PM

OBW is One Block Wonder, basically a Kaleidoscope. Bethany Reynolds wrote a book called Magic Stack N Whack and it is all the same, just called by different names.

dixiechunk 09-21-2009 03:06 PM

It's beautiful, very soft and feminine. A few years back I got hooked on Stack and Whacks. Now I am working on my first One Block Wonder and
I can see I'm hooked on these too. Not a surprise really as they are very, very similar techniques. Went to two quilt shops with a couple of friends today and every fabric went into one of two categories: great for OBW or not for OBW. Would love to see pics of some of your other OBWs.

Hey, I was born in Ala, married & went off to see the world as an Army wife, then came back to Ala. Where do Caroline's parents live? I'm in NE Ala. I know they & she will love this OBW baby quilt. Will the backing be flannel or another fabric? They will adore it for a long, long time. It's always so nice to have someone in the family who makes and gives quilts as gifts.

billswife99 09-30-2009 07:19 AM

I picked up some cream jaquard (sp) with roses on it. It's kind of heavy but so pretty. We will see how my quilter likes it. I should get the borders on this weekend.

Caroline's parents are in Daphne. This is the first baby and probably will be the only one. Dad is almost my age and I'm a grandma 3 times already! So off to a slow start for him but oh what fun he is going to be in for. I'm sure this little one will have him wrapped around her little finger in no time at all.

Sheila Elaine 09-30-2009 08:07 AM

Jenelll,
Daphne, AL, is in South, AL & I'm in NE. When is she due? I know you can't wait.

joeyoz 09-30-2009 12:56 PM

That is going to be lovely. The fabric is soft and beautiful looking. Please post pics when you are done. I would love to see the finished quilt. It's going to be beautiful.

CindyBee 09-30-2009 03:38 PM

How sweet for a baby girl! I can't wait to see it finished.

I finally got the top done this weekend. I think this is a record for me! 17 days! Don't laugh Cutebuns  This will go off to the quilter as soon as I make sure they haven't changed her name so I can put it in there.

The backing is jacqaurd. It was kind of hard to work with in the 1/2" border so I hope it doesn't give my quilter any trouble.

k3n 10-05-2009 08:16 AM

Jenell that is so soft and pretty! I love it! Can't wait to see it when your quilter's done! :D

joeyoz 10-05-2009 08:29 AM

Jenell, that turned out so beautiful. So soft and feminine.
