i think scallops would be wonderful on this quilt, and would not detract from the center at all.

How about a pink "flange" before you put your binding on?
|
Scallops or soft waves would go nice on this quilt and bind it in pink to represent sandy beaches. I think prairie points would be impressive on a boys quilt. It's wonderful and will grow with her.

I agree, I think the scallops would echo the waves of the sea.

Thanks for sharing. This is such a beautiful quilt. You can leave it as is, or add the scallops as you and others have suggested. It all depends how much work you still want to put into the project.

Echo....echo...echo...echo

It looks great as it is! :)

wavy scallops for the turtles.
then wavy quilting there too. It will all mimick water in my mind. |
I agree with Bibi.. " . This is such a beautiful quilt. You can leave it as is, or add the scallops as you and others have suggested. It all depends how much work you still want to put into the project." Good luck & let us know what you decide.

OOOH scallops would seem like waves. Too cute for words.

That's something I am considering also. I have similar batiks, but not enough of any one that I used on the shells or inner border. I'm sure something I have would blend ok.

Beautiful quilt!! I bought that pattern to make for my Grandson. He turned one today and I have not started it yet!
|
I have no advice, but must say the quilt is beautiful.

Scallops would compliment the wave motion you've created diagonally while adding a hint of femininity. I think they would enhance the finished quilt. Love your composition and fabric choices. This is a fun, unique quilt.
|
I think it would look nice either way...

this sounds good to me! it is beautiful!!

Bind it. Looks perfect to me. If you feel the need for more pink you can use that dark pink from your turtles for the binding ?

I think either way will be pretty. Mostly I just want to congratulate you on making such a cute quilt. And I'm sure the granddaughter will love it.

If it was my quilt and if I was confident of my skills for making scallops (not in my case!), I'd do them. It's awfully cute, and will be fine either way.

Thank you all for your replies. I have considered all of the options mentioned and it has helped me to narrow down my choices. When I first thought of doing a scalloped border, I had thought that the scallops would mimic waves, and I think that might be the best option. I did do scallops on a different quilt (hopefully pictured below) and matched the binding to the border, which worked well for that quilt. I may do the same on this. Whatever I choose for binding, I think it needs to be one fabric. I think a scrappy binding would draw too much attention from the center. I will audition some bindings once I get to that point. Now I need to come up with a quilting design to fit within the scallops...I'm thinking seaweed and other sea creatures. I plan to quilt swirls in the water around the turtles.

It's really pretty... I don't think it matters what you do... it's gonna be a wonderful gift. I love it.

very pretty~

Your quilts are gorgeous! :)
I like scalloped quilts! |
I, like doghousemom, think the cathedral window scalloped binding (in pink) would look great on this beautiful quilt.
