Baby Honu top done - scalloped borders?

1 Attachment(s)
I finished the Babu Honu top for my new granddaughter due in August. I love how it came out. I put a lot of pinks in it but still wonder if it needs something to make it more girly. I did consider prairie points, but don't want them to distract too much from the center. I am contemplating making the outer border a scalloped border. I need to decide before I quilt the border because it might change my decision on what to quilt.

What do you think? Scallops or bind it as is?

Thanks for looking!

Bind it. Looks perfect to me. If you feel the need for more pink you can use that dark pink from your turtles for the binding ?

Sewfine 05-13-2012 04:26 PM

That is pretty. Love the blue and the turtles.

That's something I am considering also. I have similar batiks, but not enough of any one that I used on the shells or inner border. I'm sure something I have would blend ok.

i think it looks terrific just as it is... go ahead and bind. Great job:thumbup:

I am back. I changed my computer services and I couldn't seem to get the board going again.
Your quilt is really pretty. I like it.

adorable.......................................... ..........

i think scallops would be wonderful on this quilt, and would not detract from the center at all.

I agree, I think the scallops would echo the waves of the sea.

I second that motion. I think it looks plenty girlie (not too girlie, but girlie enough for a girl -- if that makes sense). I think the pink would make a great binding -- it would move your eye out there & really give it an added zing. I can't wait to see this when it's all done!

Scallops would echo the shape of the turtles shells. But if you bound it, it would be equally lovely. Great quilt!

verypretty like the blues!!

Dolphyngyrl 05-13-2012 05:55 PM

My vote is for scallops

LyraJean 05-13-2012 06:56 PM

scallops except for at the top that would be near her head. But then that might make too directional. I think the colors are great. Definitely bind in pink. I know a lot of girls who actually don't like pink. I also know a lot of new moms who love their girls but don't love the gifts because everything is pink. So don't worry about not enough pink the baby will have plenty.

So pretty! I say bind with pink!

Neesie 05-13-2012 07:48 PM

I would leave it, just as it is! Little girls love blue, too! :)

lpsewing 05-13-2012 08:20 PM

scalloped boarder will make it look more girlie in my opinion
beautiful quilt

Painiacs 05-13-2012 08:47 PM

Will look great either way! I'd bind it then make bibs and burp cloths to go with it!!

sewbeadit 05-13-2012 10:40 PM

It really turned out great!

Becca Bear 05-13-2012 10:45 PM

Ditto for me. I hadn't read the complete post before I looked at picture & I thought "Wow. I really like that." The colors are fantastic. If you do anything, just do IMHO0- the dark pink binding from the turtles--just a plain binding. I would like that quilt for myself. Added to my favorites.

I love your turtle quilt....I love the blue, but would scallop the border to add a little extra "girly look"

lollygagging 05-14-2012 11:51 AM

I think a scalloped border bound in pink would add the feminine touch you're looking for. Beautiful quilt and I love your color choices. Thanks for sharing.

javin22 05-14-2012 12:07 PM

I think I would bind it so not to distract from the beautiful center.

DogHouseMom 05-14-2012 01:25 PM

Have you considered the cathedral window type scalloped binding shown here ...

http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...g-t184029.html

I think it would be a perfect border for this quilt.

Debbie B 05-14-2012 02:07 PM

Your quilt is beautiful either way you finish it, but I vote for the scalloped borders.

fred singer 05-14-2012 02:10 PM

Oh thats lovely!
Deja vous too, I made a turtle quilt for my 1st Grandson born last December!!
If it was me I would just do the scalloped borders. I think thats feminine to start with :)
Enjoy your Granddaughter.

marymm 05-14-2012 03:13 PM
