Baby Log Cabin & Patchwork Puzzle Ball
2 Attachment(s)
When our DIL was pregnant a few years ago with our first grandchild we decide to make a quilt for the baby. We had some alphabet material that we loved and wanted to use so decided to go log cabin. Unfortunately there were three different block sizes so I had to figure out how to make each fit in the block and feel we succeeded. We chose non gender colors and when our grandson was born they loved it.
I have subsequently decided to make a patchwork puzzle ball from Jinny Beyer from scraps of each quilt we ever made and keep a display basket in our foyer so that when I see any ball I will know that came from a certain quilt and will always have a record. The balls don't always use every color but enough do get used to identify the quilt. Hope you enjoy. |
Beautiful quilt and quilting. That is a cute ball also. What a neat idea.
That is soooo pretty!! Great job.
Darling quilt and ball. Great idea! Thanks for sharing:)
In a few years you'll have more balls than the foyer can hold....then what? Just kidding, of course. I love the puzzle ball. and have to try one. Is there tut?
The baby quilt is beautiful...beautiful colors. |
Beautiful quilt and ball!!!!!
Love the quilt and the ball is a great idea for keeping memories of all your quilts. I've made string blocks using the fabrics from each quilt I've made. Someday, they'll all be put into one quilt.
So cute, I love the way you designed this quilt with the old standby block!!!!! Even old blocks can look modern with the right fabric!!!! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very nice quilting nice
Beautiful quilt and I love the idea of the fabric balls. I can just see those grandbabies in a few years with all those fabric balls you will have made. They will have a ball!!
Well done - a great job on both.
What a great quilt. Love the quilting

Your quilt is awesome and I like the different sizes of the center block. Your quilting is also awesome and I just love the puzzle balls and will just have to find the pattern. Thanks for sharing.

what a wonderful quilt and a clever idea with the ball
Who doesn't love Log Cabins? Gorgeous! And how inspirational to see the different size middle blocks. I never would have attempted that, I don't think, until I just saw yours. Sometimes it's hard to think outside the box until someone really creative shows you the way! Thanks for sharing! And love the quilty ball too!
great job on both of them. the quilting is wonderful
Beautiful quilt, cute ball. You did wonderful work on these.
I love your log cabin, and the soft colors, and the ball idea is wonderful, but it would take me longer to make the ball than to make the quilt!
Is there a trick to making it so nice and round? |
Nicely done!!!
Beautiful! Did you do the quilting yourself?
Very cute! I really like how the quilting gave the log cabin an entirely different look! Cute ball, too!
The trick is ti fill it as full of cotton stuufing as possible and then put more in. Pack it tight. Afterewards put it in the dryer with damp towel for five minutes. Jinny Beyer explains it well in her book Patchwork Puzzle Balls and has designs for a number of different size balls.
No we used a LAQ who subsequently got ill and can no longer do quilting.
What a pretty log cabin & the centers look great. I also love the quilting. Wish I could make feathers like that! I like the ball, too.
Beautiful quilt and quilting!
