Baby Quilts - first posting attempt....
5 Attachment(s)
A newbee to this message board, I am hoping to post here two baby quilts for two adorable grandsons. The first one, Finley's Back Yard, started out as something totally different but I didn't care for it, so I drew a very rudimentary sketch of his back yard, enlarged it to fit into the existing background, and used needle turn appliqué to finish it. Inspiration came from Out of the Box by MaryLou Weidman. The second quilt is needle turn as well, and I always wanted to do an alphabet quilt. When I finished the alphabet, I didn't think it was up to par with Finley's quilt (they are brothers), so I had to jazz it up a bit. I put animals on a few of the letters, but found myself caught by the challenge of adding to every single letter, so there you have it. Both are hand quilted, and minimally since I knew they would be wall quilts and I had to hurry - six months is not enough time!!! Now let's see if I can figure out how to add the pictures from my Mac.... Oh my, I think I did it!! A major triumph for this technologically challenged woman...

Wow! You sure put a lot of work and effort into the quilts! Everyone will treasure those for years to come! Will they hang on a wall until it's time for them to wrap up your grandsons with your love??? What awesome teaching quilts!

Wow. All of your positive comments about my baby quilts are so much appreciated! Hearing such thoughts from so many incredible quilters makes my day. Thank you all for taking the time to give me some feedback! I want to clarify just one thing - I have been quilting seriously for about 8 years, discovered needle turn appliqué in 2011. Finley's quilt was my first attempt at appliqué other than little practice things. The newbee status referred to my time on this board and the posting of pictures! I didn't want you all to think these were my first quilts!!!!

Adorable quilts. Someday I am going to learn to do needle-turn!!!
|
So creative. I am a believer in using a quilt but these would go on a wall in my house. Love the back yard one.
|
Great quilts. Good job.
|
Both are just delightful. That is one lucky little one who is getting these! I have no doubt he will love them till they fall apart. Speaking from having to repair quilts for little ones that didn't have enough threads left to try to stitch on.
