She does beautiful work.

EmiliasNana 10-27-2014 06:05 AM

What a wonderful photo !

Yooper32 10-27-2014 06:10 AM

Her plants are as beautiful as she, herself, is. Wish I had a pr. of those slippers.

maviskw 10-27-2014 06:30 AM

In Peru a year or two ago, we went to the "Market". Hundreds of "booths" in a very large building. Quit a few of these booths had a treadle sewing machine in front with someone making what was being sold in the booth. They didn't need an outlet.

That's what caught me too! What a beautiful woman. I bet those slippers are really warm - takes a whole new meaning to made from scratch. Thanks for the pictures. BTW so many
use the treadle because they don't always have access to electricity.

woodyandjake 10-27-2014 08:24 AM

she does nice work, did you buy a pair of slippers? What a kind looking woman.

lfstamper 10-27-2014 08:27 AM

She looks so proud of her work as she should be! Very nice.

dilyn 10-27-2014 08:38 AM

What a beautiful lady. I learned to sew on an old treadle machine (does that date me at all?LOL) and I would love to have another one but working ones are way over my budget!

RedGarnet222 10-27-2014 09:01 AM

What a talented lady! I was wondering if that was some of her work behind her as well. She is such a sweet looking soul.

mjmachin 10-27-2014 10:04 AM

What a beautiful picture and such a lovely lady. I would love to sit and talk with her. So nice that you give your photographed folks a small appreciation gift. That is such a lovely thing to do. Sounds like you have traveled a lot and seen some interesting sites. Thanks so much for sharing.

Sandra in Minnesota 10-27-2014 11:27 AM

Those slippers look really warm for a Minnesota winter. Also noticed the white hat with a hat band, in the background. Really nice and she looks like a really wonderful person. Thanks for sharing.

quiltingeileen 10-27-2014 11:56 AM

Beautiful picture. This woman seems to love what she's doing. Thanks for giving me a glimpse into another part of the world!

MargeD 10-27-2014 12:13 PM

She's a beautiful woman and I'm glad she let you photograph her.

maryellen2u 10-27-2014 12:23 PM

Your photos are so great! I love the slippers. I need those. I also love the bright textiles behind her. A refreshing little trip outside my world this morning! Thanks

QM 10-27-2014 01:09 PM

Great pix! I would love to have a pair of those slippers.

quiltmouse 10-27-2014 02:38 PM

wool slippers -- sound so lovely & toasty warm. She has a kind face.

granny64 10-27-2014 02:38 PM

Love the slippers and I bet they are really warm. Love how other countries show the simple things in life.

solstice3 10-27-2014 04:45 PM

That would be awesome to sit outside and sew

riutzelj 10-27-2014 04:50 PM

the machine doesn't have to be that old, it could be WWII era and still be a treadle. There are lots of places in Europe and Africa where electricity is an issue so modern companies are still making treadles. Our ministry, Women of Purpose International, supports some Kenya women out in their village and we bought them treadle machines made in Africa to cut down on shipping costs; more machines for our buck.

Love all the fabric in the background. All the colors.

twinsister2 10-27-2014 07:14 PM

Kind of makes you grateful for whatever brand you have... Doesn't it?

heather1949 10-27-2014 07:19 PM

Beautiful photography, and she looks so peaceful and kind, beautiful smile.

That is what I was thinking. Must come from living a simpler life.

milikaa1 10-27-2014 09:13 PM

I love these pictures, the smile and her eyes speak to me....I also love her slippers! They look so warm, thank you soooo much for sharing!

southernmema 10-28-2014 03:59 AM

Oh My!! What a beautiful lady! Her eyes reveal a sweetness of spirit, her smile - the compassion of the heart. Yet, look at her hands - they speak to years of hard work! She take great pride in the fruit of her labors! (Thank you for sharing!)

Annaquilts 10-28-2014 06:29 AM

It says Pfaff on the side of the threadlike legs. This sounds like a wonderful trip. Thank you for sharing the pictures and story. I enjoyed them.

sewmuch 10-28-2014 06:35 AM

She looks like she could be a friend and love the slippers...just curious how much did she sell them for?

mjhaess 10-28-2014 07:00 AM

Thanks for sharing...

llong0233 10-28-2014 07:16 AM

GailG I agree so very much. What a sweet and lovely smile. And the plant behind her is gorgeous. She not only has a deep kindness about her and can sew, she also has a green thumb. Beautiful in many ways. Thanks for sharing.

The price of the slippers was 100 lei which is about $33 USD. A good price for handmade wool slippers!

matraina 10-28-2014 10:43 AM

I agree with GailG. Had to look at all the pictures of her again. Don't know about the machine.

nygal 10-28-2014 11:54 AM

What a sweet smile she has. I love all the beautiful, colorful things behind her.

Momo 10-28-2014 03:37 PM

Great pictures and all the plants she has around here says a lot about her love of pretty things. I would love a pair of the slippers. Her machine and table appear to be used a lot. And to think we covet the high end machines! Thanks for sharing.

You may be surprised at how many people have a $2,000.00 sewing machine in the sewing room, and sew on an old treadle from the early 1900's, even 1800's. I have two old ones that I love to use. A Featherweight from 1951 and a Singer 128 from 1924. I have sewn on a treadle in my high school days, and would love to have one. I have my eye on one.

Also, notice where her thread comes from. She has a large cone sitting on the floor.

quiltjoey 10-28-2014 06:06 PM

Beautiful lady in a beautiful photograph!! But it makes me think how blessed I am that I don't have to spin my own wool and make slippers, hats, etc to sell. Work is work. I am grateful for all I have. She has a wonderful smile and beautiful blue eyes and great pride in her work. Thanks for sharing your vacation pics!

janiesews 10-28-2014 06:22 PM

I agree with the other ladies - her smile and kind eyes got my attention. She looks like a very kind, caring soul. She must be doing what she loves.
