Hi all, I received an e-mail today from one of my angels. Her name is Barbara and I hope she will be joining us soon. Come on, Barbara, join in.

In her picture she showed me a "mistake" she made while sewing and watching TV. She was doing machine applique and used the blanket stitch backwards. I love the look of it and may use it myself at some point. I call it the Barbara's stitch. What do you all think?

Here is the hole thing

 Yeah, me, too. I have done some doozies, that were not work repeating. I think this is creative, and like the way it looks!

sewingladydi 09-07-2010 07:26 PM

Looks good and seems like that would actually be a stronger stitch so that the applique would stand up to machine washing, etc.

1quilt_gma 09-07-2010 07:28 PM

Great Mistake! Make some more, Barbara!

watson's mom 09-07-2010 07:34 PM

I don't think it was a mistake,....looks like an 'Executive Design Alteration' to me . excellent results too. Thank you for sharing, I love it.

SandyinZ4 09-07-2010 07:37 PM

I like it, too. Looks like a Hawaiian quilt design to me. I never could make snowflakes so probably could not do this. Sure is pretty though.

soleegirl 09-07-2010 07:39 PM

dkabasketlady 09-07-2010 07:57 PM

I like it too! Very creative!

lalaland 09-07-2010 08:28 PM

I really like that, I didn't notice it was backwards, I just noticed that she did a great job stitching.

Sadheart 09-07-2010 08:58 PM

Looks like flowers stitched around the applique.
Great work Barbara.
Hope you will join us. And share more ideas.

Thanks
Sandra

That's how "new" patterns, etc. are born. Some knitting & tatting stitches, etc. are born from mistakes. the quilt is simply gorgeous and I think the stitches enhance the design.

Pickles 09-07-2010 08:59 PM

A very nice mistake indeed really pretty :D

Sheila Elaine 09-07-2010 09:02 PM

Maria, tell Barb that is a SuperKool effect she has created. Just think how different colored threads would look, even on the same color fabric. Come on Barb, join us here.

nana pat 09-08-2010 12:20 AM

Oh poo, I did about an hours work on a quilt , backwards just like that.
but then noticed, after looking at the other block, that it was wrong, so I unsewed the whole thing and did it over the right way. I guess its true that there are no quilt police and I could have left it in, I love the look, it looks like the design is radiating. Woohoo, next time it wont' be a mistake.

marghar50 09-08-2010 12:46 AM

I will need to remember this new stitch. its Beautiful !!

dgmoby 09-08-2010 01:06 AM

I saw someone on Simply Quilts do this years ago. She used this stitch, as well as some others, to outline specific parts of flowers and leaves. It made them look much more realistic. She did it on a fun, jazzy looking quilt also, where it looked awesome (like Jacobean appliqué). I think it's a wonderful stitch. One can really outline appliqué with any cool/nice looking stitch and it gives the entire quilt more interest. I've seen some interesting, beautiful tops while longarming!

Good for Barbara for figuring this one out :)

twinkie 09-08-2010 01:26 AM

I love it, especially around flowers. Great Job. Join us, please, Barbara!

peabee 09-08-2010 03:21 AM

Aren't oops wonderful. You have to join Barbara we want your "mistakes". I am glad you kept on going with that stitch it really shows of the applique. Nice work. Hey, WELCOME (now you gotta join).

hcarpanini 09-08-2010 04:51 AM

I love the dimension it gives. It is her design element! Beautiful.

Evelynquilts 09-08-2010 05:26 AM
