No, stop! I think you are done! Let's wait until Barb_Mo gets here but I think you are where you want to be. The way I am counting your fabrics, you are done. Beautiful fabrics. In your second layout they look perfect to me for the pattern. Barb will need to know: on the pattern, the light colors are ?5? rows and the yellow on the pattern is the ?6? th row? And in your 2nd fabric layout your 1st 5 fabrics are light to creme, then you have an ?orange? so that orange will be where the yellow in the pattern picture is? Right? If so, I think you are ready to cut. Good job! I am going to love it. Let's see what Barb says. Let's see--there are 6 considered cream to yellow/orange, then 9 for the mid section--the directions just said autumn colors, then 5 greens. I do love this set up. See what Barb thinks! :-D |
Beautiful choice of fabrics

perfect will be beautiful

I love the colors you have chosen. Both sets. I can't wait to see the end result!

Now I think the creams are broken up a bit--and the prints aren't so in a row... see the new fabrics in the cream section? LOVE them!! I don't think I'll be changing my mind. |
I am a little bit concerned how the green with big orange leaves will appear when cut into small pieces. It's a gorgeous fabric but if it turns out to look mostly orange in the quilt, will you be disappointed? If so, try switching it to the left a few spaces....
Love them all. Can't wait for the finished product!
I would move the one with the gold leaves to #12. Because of the large print, it reads a little lighter. I have that pattern!! Just did my first Bargello about a year ago.
I'll let you color coordinate all my future quilts. Beautiful colors.

i love the way you keep rolling along. how large do you plan this to be?
the colors are gorgeous. i always enjoy your color sense. must be the result of living in the country near a lake. |
Gets my go ahead vote!

Can't wait to see the finished bagello. Love all the colors.

Some of the creams are not batiks, all the rest are. That's fine with me. I don't want to buy anything! :-D I'll just be making a wall hanging or two... so no big deal if it doesn't work well. I want to try a small one to get the hang of Bargellos. See anything glaring I should switch? |

As a decorator, this is the way I have always told my customers to make their decisions on paint, fabric and wallpaper. Most of the time after three days you have pretty much chosen what works for you and family. The first day all look great,,,,,,,Second day, not sure about a couple, Third Day the fav jumps out at you and that is what you will enjoy living with.

Pretty fabrics! Will make a great quilt!

Love all the colors together. But I have done this quilt, in the rainbow colors you see, and the fall colors of the pattern. The only thing I can say is the dark green with the rust leaves may not read dark enough when you cut it to the desired width and only the 1" finished width shows. Depending where the leaves fall, it may end up looking like a rust piece stuck in with the darks. Fold it to 1" width and see what you think. This is the first one I did, and the fabric between the red and gold looked fine in the pile, just like the dark green with the rust leaves, but after it was finished, I wish I'd chosen something that 'read' more solid.

Karla, your choices are gorgeous! I love that pattern, bought it, but have yet to make it...You are inspiring me! Do you have Eileen Wright's book "Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts"? She says to include a "zinger" fabric to spice up the color progression. To me, this zinger equals a fabric you may not be totally sure about, but like and WANT to include. It is surprising how often this questionable fabric turns out to be just what the quilt needs! Good Luck and I can't wait to see your quilt!

I often do colourwash and bargello and would be very happy with your combinations. Occasionally, throwing in a zinger will give your quilt extra interest because of the contrast.
i have wanted to do a bargello since i first seen them , i just love the colors you pick, you are braver than me, would love to see when you are finished
Go Girl!!!! good contrasts and mellows, this will definitely bargello out! have a great time.

I think they will look gorgeous, beautiful fabs!
Should be gorgeous. Have fun
your colours have inspired me, I think they are beautiful . can`t wait to see the result ,go for it
The colors look good to me.
YUMMY! Arrangement #2 looks like a winner to me - and the zinger idea is a good one. I can't remember who said to cut a strip from each fabric and hang them up for a few days to see if you still like them, but it sounds like a good idea - especially if you're on the fence about 2 or 3 of the fabrics.
I'll take it.......done or not done. Beautiful choices. That is what I need to do better is to pick out fabric but as long as you did it, I will take it.
I would take #11 and make it #8. All else looks wonderful to me. But I have never made a bargello so I might not know what I'm talking about. LOL
OOPS, didn't see arrangement on page 2. Ignore what I said up there!
OOPS, didn't see arrangement on page 2. Ignore what I said up there! Now I would pull #7 and make it #9. All else is wonderful. It's going to be an amazing quilt.
I think this is a great colorchoice....looking forward to see the results :-D :-D :-D
Counting from the left,on the first page, I would take #12 and # 14 and move them by #10.....They are all beautiful and should make a striking bargello!!!
Great combination of colors. You will do fine and after you have done the first one you will be foreever hooked on the bargello style. Be sure to post the finished quilt!
I love the fabrics you have chosen, and can't wait to see them made into a bargello. I am sure your arrangement, be it the 2nd, 1st, or totally different will be perffect. Can't wait!
I have not read all the replies, so I apologize if I'm repeating anyone. All of your fabrics are gorgeous.
I do wonder about one of the fabrics in the middles and greens picture. It is a darkish green background with brownish leaves. I am thinking that (if the pieces are fairly small), this print will appear to be less of a blender, and more of a standout. I'm having a hard time explaining this. I think the leaves will appear in odd places, taking away some of the symmetry of the design. But, again, I agree with everyone here, you have a wonderful gift for pciking beautiful fabrics and putting them together effectively. Good luck with this project! Can't wait to see it finished! |
