First photo is the pattern. The suggestion is to go with 6 creams to yellow, then 9 autumn colors, to 5 greens...
Some of the creams are not batiks, all the rest are. That's fine with me. I don't want to buy anything! :-D I'll just be making a wall hanging or two... so no big deal if it doesn't work well. I want to try a small one to get the hang of Bargellos. See anything glaring I should switch? WOW,gorgeous fabrics.Cant wait to see the bargello,it;ll be beautiful.I;m not brave enough for that yet
Ooh, these are my colors!!! I am planning on making my first bargello after the holidays for my bed, and I am going with oranges, green, browns and tans. I think yours are lovely!
No they won't work, so I think you should send them all to me.... LOL JK. They are absolutely gogeous! I love them all!!!!!
I have always thought you had a great sense of color and I think you have chosen a winner yet again. I have never made any bargello beyond a small wall hanging as a learning piece, but I am sure that someone with experience will have an answer for you soon.
Happy Holidays! How are those sweet minis? |
Those fabrics will make a beautiful Bargello quilt.
Beautiful assortment of fabrics. I have not ventured doing a bargello, yet. The more of them I see, the more I want to try one. Maybe after Christmas
Oh good lord yes they will work. I can not wait till we get to see the finished quilt... great looking fabrics wowzers.
That is going to beautiful.
It's going to be gorgeous!!!
Woo hooo!!!! Your in the club!!! Are you ready for the addiction?????????
What a beautiful selection :D:D:D
Great choices, can't wait to see it.

Well--I switched the 11th and 12th fabrics...but will that be too many "solids" in a row then too many prints in a row? And are the creams different enough?
Sigh... I need to stick with something at some point but with 20 pieces, there are so many ways to change it! |
Naughty naughty Katie ! Dont try to trick us! LOL

Sigh... I need to stick with something at some point but with 20 pieces, there are so many ways to change it! Again, each time I walked into the room I looked at them. If one of the strips slapped me in the face I moved it closer to a cousin, sister or brother. Looked again each time I came into the room. If one strip kept jumping out at me and didn't disappear anywhere I put it, I took it out and put it away. When all the strips disappeared within themselves I felt like I was ready. In Danmar's instructions and tutorial she says the fabric only has to work with the 2 fabrics on either side of it. That rule and my disappearing act worked for me. Good luck. |
I think you have a perfect mix there. This description of the disappearing act sounds like one I will use when I do mine. I have been playing with an online "pallet" of colors on one web site, doing the same of keep going back to it later to see if I still like it.
It should be beautiful with your color choices.
I am not normally drawn to these types of fall colors - I'm more of a blue/purple/green fan myself. That being said - I LOVE your fabric choices and think this will be an incredibly beautiful quilt!! Or as others have said - you could just pack them up and send them all to me-LOL! Good luck on your journey with this fabulous quilt!!

I changed my mind!!! I'm allowed, right?
Now I think the creams are broken up a bit--and the prints aren't so in a row... see the new fabrics in the cream section? LOVE them!! I don't think I'll be changing my mind. new selections... See the new creams? Rearranged this section... I love the pattern you have chosen. I'm a lousy color selector so I'm staying out of that!
Please keep us posted. I'd love to try that pattern some day and would appreciate your thoughts on it. |
Wow, so much info from our friend in Tn. I have got to bookmark this one for sure. Your colors are beautiful and I'm sure it will be beautiful. Make sure to post pictures aloing the way for us.

Love your choices..

Let's wait until Barb_Mo gets here but I think you are where you want to be. The way I am counting your fabrics, you are done. Beautiful fabrics. In your second layout they look perfect to me for the pattern. Barb will need to know: on the pattern, the light colors are ?5? rows and the yellow on the pattern is the ?6? th row? And in your 2nd fabric layout your 1st 5 fabrics are light to creme, then you have an ?orange? so that orange will be where the yellow in the pattern picture is? Right? If so, I think you are ready to cut. Good job! I am going to love it. Let's see what Barb says. |
I think you did a great job picking colors. Sometimes its best to stick to your first instincts - I know I drive myself crazy when I can't make up my mind. 20 fabrics would make me completely loopy. Good job - cannot wait to see the completed quilt top.
I have that pattern, but haven't made it yet. I love your colors!
Loving it!
I think it looks great the way you have the fabrics lined up. I simply can't wait to see the quilt.
If you have any worries about the order of the colours (which are beautiful by the way) line them up in the order you'll be using them and take a photo. If you can, convert the photo to black and white. It will show up if you have one of a certain value that is not in the right place.
Can't wait to see this one.
Love the pattern and your colors are great. I made this pattern and entered in 2009 state fair and got Best of Show, Viewers Choice and 1st place for my category, hq and done by one person. Entered in local cty fair and won Grand Champion. Made w/batiks. Every quilt made w/this pattern was beautiful. I've got material to make a couple more quilts. I made the queen size but added 3 large borders to make it king. Don't know how to add photo or I would post.
Looks great to me.... I can hardly wait to see it all done.

I like the way you have the fabrics now. They will make a gorgeous bargello. When I make mine I lay the fabrics out like you have but I also put a bunch more randomly in another row or rows depending how many others I have in the same colors and then just other ones I like that I think may fit. I usually leave them like that for a couple of weeks and keep looking at them and experimenting with others until I like the way they look together. I find if I second guess myself too much then I get frustrated and worry that it might look better the way I had them before. Once I like the way it looks, I just start making the quilt. I might have to try cutting strips and checking that way but my way seems to work for me. I took a short class on bargellos a couple of years ago and the instructor had us lay out our fabrics and some people thought I should use a different fabric than one I had chosen and I let myself get talked into changing and when it was done, I didn't like that fabric in it. I have never finished it and the top remains in my UFO basket because I don't like the way it now looks. I have ben happy with all the other bargellos I have done since then. Have fun making yours.

Love it, but I would switch the second and third colors(whitish).
Gorgeous fabrics - Look forward to seeing the end product.

Your second lot of colours are a winner, please keep us posted!
:D |

I think your colors are really grand and will work out beautifully. I've made several Bargello quilts and I'll offer this hint. As you cut each vertical column (some patterns call them "rows"), cut all the strips needed for a column and clip them together (I used the hair type clips) for assembling later. Then I used a small square of masking tape and numbered on it the column (I did 1 to 40 or whatever, working left to right) and stuck it on the first colored square at the top for that column. After all columns were cut, I then assembled them adding/deleting squares and strips as in the directions. Leave on the masking tape markers until all columns are sewn together. Saves a lot of confusion and I had no ripping out to do. Assemble columns on a design wall, if you have one, and you can catch any major mistakes before assembling.

They are beautiful and will look great
