Barn Quilts

My DH and I were not sure what to make our girls for Easter. They all decorate in a country theme so we decided to make these.

Love your barn quilts!
Where are you located in western NY? I am hoping to get to Leroy this summer to see the barn quilts in that area. Have you checked them out?

malega 04-30-2013 03:43 PM

Those are very nice.

kitsykeel 04-30-2013 04:51 PM

Love those barn quilts. What size are they and what type of board did you paint them on? Also what type of paint did you use? Thanks in advance for any answers.

oksewglad 04-30-2013 06:04 PM

Oh so pretty--this size would look great on a garden fence!

heather1949 04-30-2013 10:25 PM

Very nice.

Thanks everyone for your nice words. They are 18 x 18, we used an exterior grade plywood, painted a base coat, drew on the quilting block and painted with exterior paints. Finished them with a piece of trim around to finish the edges. Would suggest a finish coat of poly (exterior grade ) before hanging them outside. My mom :)gave me an old calendar that had 352 quilt blocks in it for the year, was an excellent guide for the blocks. Really was a nice size, the girls hung them by their entry doors into their homes.

gabeway 05-01-2013 04:38 AM

Very nice!

Quiltshaker 05-01-2013 08:11 AM

I'm addicted to Barn Quilts and especially like yours. The size is great.....could use them on a house. Were they very hard to make and what type wood did you use. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work. Just read a bit further where you gave good information. Thanks.

BuzzinBumble 05-01-2013 05:25 PM

Tulip, those are terrific!
Your daughters are lucky girls! Thanks to for explaining how you made them!

Kris - do you know where to look in Leroy? We often drive out that way. Son goes to RIT. BIG quilt show on the campus over Memorial Day weekend I think.

Lara:
I've seen the barn directions on the internet, so one of these days I will make it up there. Don't know the exact quilt show dates, but several of our guild members are going. We are about three hours away.

stephanie 05-02-2013 02:40 AM

Thank you for your idea - maybe I will make one as a gift for my son and his American wife. She is from Missouri, so a Missouri Star would be appropriate.

kittiebug 05-02-2013 04:32 AM

girliegirl 05-02-2013 04:37 AM

Thanks Kris - it never occured to me that the trail would be posted on the internet. What isn't theses days? Sure enough, they even have a web site for it: http://www.leroybarnquilt.org/

So I looked up the quilt show too, since I could not remember the dates. It is the biggest show in western NY put on by the Genesee Valley Quilt Club and held in RIT's Gordon Field House. They'll have more than 600 quilts this year and it runs from May 31 - June 2. Clearly my son is in for a draggin along with his mom. ;)
Hope your guild members have a ball!
