I beleive this technique is called stack and whack? Or something? Anyway...My DH wanted a quilt that "didn't make sense?" and he didn't want any patterns on his fabrics.....Well that is impossible for any sort of interest...so I used all batiks.....they add enough interest and the pattens are not over whelming.....his next request is that it have minky on the back...my Dh is six foot three..so this quilt is very long and skinny. His next quilt he wants it to have osme sort of optical illusion......well I will look into that later.LOL. I did all of teh quilting on an Innova long arm....freehand.

Great job!! On the quilting too!!!

Does all that quilting on the back of the minkie affect the overall softness and feel of it? I am in the process of making my nephews minkie quilts and have worried that too much quilting would lose the softness of the overall backing.

No I have not had a problem.....This is a low loft minky but it is still very soft and comfy.....on some of our others I have used minky that is called..."fur" which is really long fibers and you can't even see the quilting after it is washed..also very nice.

What a cool quilt. You definitely filled all of your DH criteria IMHO. How long have you been long arming? I love the quilting design you did. Did you just wing it or did you mark the quilt in some way before longarming?

azdesertrat 06-15-2010 02:48 PM

that is awesome

That is really really nice, love the whole thing, especially the minky backing!

Rebecca VLQ 06-15-2010 03:08 PM

Woo! How tight did you have the minkee pulled? Like, I wonder if it would curl up if you pulled too much?

I love the leaves....awesome job!!!

EC 06-15-2010 04:35 PM

Great job! I'm not familiar with "minky", is that something you used for the backing?

NHSOMND 06-15-2010 05:32 PM

Girl, where on earth do you find the time to make so many quilts, and take care of that big family! I managed to finish a baby quilt top this morning, then sort my stash of fat quarters... Guess I need to pick up the pace!

cmagee84 06-15-2010 05:33 PM

WOW! Only six months!!! How many have you done in six months? I am just getting started with a short arm and frame. I am doing some donation baby blankets for starters and experience.

Jeanniejo 06-15-2010 05:34 PM

Great quilt. How many have you made this week ?????

charismah 06-15-2010 05:38 PM

Well I have not posted pics in a while ...I have been sewing bags....shopping bags and purses. SO this is the only quilt I have done in the last couple of weeks..to completion..however I have done 5 quilt tops.....and about 20 bags and purses ( combined)

Yes..I used MInky for the backing material..it is very soft fur like material.

Umm..I always put my minky on the stretch frame....many of us do here..and none of us have ever had a problem.....Maybe it depends on quality? I am not sure.....but I have done many minky backed quilts.

HeatherQuilts 06-15-2010 05:59 PM

Oh, and it's not a Stack and Whack. Not sure what the pattern is, but it sure is pretty!

RST 06-15-2010 06:04 PM

Not stack and whack, but maybe a shuffled deck?

Lovely job, and I specially love your free motion quilting.

gramadona 06-15-2010 06:18 PM

Wow, it's fabulous!!

kristananne 06-15-2010 06:20 PM

This looks great! I love the minky on the back. I always associate that with baby quilts and I never would have thought to use it for my husband's quilt. But I think that I just might do that! He loves that kind of soft & cozy stuff.

wvdek 06-15-2010 06:33 PM

What a great 'man' quilt. Good job.

anicra 06-15-2010 06:39 PM
