This Beast is Finally Pieced!

Ever start something (quilt-wise) and then think, "What have I gotten myself into?" It seemed like a good idea to cut up my blue and brown scraps into pieces for these blocks... but the matching seams and piecing went on forever! This top was more work than any I have yet pieced. Thank goodness I got it finished. I like it but don't "love" it... just real happy it's in one piece, finally!

Well worth it so nice

Grandma Bonnie 08-31-2014 06:47 AM

It's beautiful and sure looks like a lot of work! You did a great job!

Annz 08-31-2014 06:49 AM

It came out really nice.

DebbE 08-31-2014 06:58 AM

Lovely! What size is it? Where did you get the pattern? I can see this is depression era colors....

pocoellie 08-31-2014 06:59 AM

You did a wonderful job on it!!!

quiltsRfun 08-31-2014 07:04 AM

It's gorgeous. Maybe if you put it away for a while you'll love it when you see it again.

QuiltingVagabond 08-31-2014 07:07 AM

I love it! Good job on seeing it through!

lynnie 08-31-2014 07:42 AM

well,it came out beautiful and well worth the effort put into it.

KalamaQuilts 08-31-2014 07:49 AM

lovely scrappy. I don't know about anyone else, but I forget that brown is a color.

Nammie to 7 08-31-2014 08:12 AM

You did a very nice job on your quilt. Your color choices work well together. The two simple blocks make for an interesting quilt.

QuiltnNan 08-31-2014 08:12 AM

nicely done

I could have written this post! It's very similar to one I'm quilting at the moment and I made mine king sized. The piecing was a challenge for me too, so it's been 'fun' to quilt. I put mine together about 6 yrs ago and it's called The Natural. Great learning experience :). I like your quilt colours, it's a little brighter than mine I think. How will you quilt yours?

quilter1430 08-31-2014 08:58 AM

It's a beauty! You'll probably end up loving it when you step away from it for a while.

RedGarnet222 08-31-2014 09:04 AM

Beautiful! Any quilt that has to be put together with blocks that must have adjacent partners to complete the block is a real challenge for me. You did such a lovely job on it. I'd say once the quilt is finished with beautiful quilting you will love it again. What a labor of love.

dunster 08-31-2014 10:10 AM

You may not love it, but I do! Lovely quilt, great design, wonderfully scrappy.

GailG 08-31-2014 10:12 AM

Beautiful work and beautiful colors. Take a deep breath, step back, and give it another look. You can pat yourself on the back for this one. What an accomplishment!

QUILTNMO 08-31-2014 10:22 AM

its turned out great love the colors nice job!!!

Lovequilting22 08-31-2014 10:24 AM

I love brown, but I agree....sometimes it doesn't occur to me to use it in a quilt. Love these fabric choices. Great job.

Pennyhal 08-31-2014 10:29 AM

This is a fantastic quilt! I'm glad you posted photos of it.

Lori S 08-31-2014 10:46 AM

A wonderful scrappy! Come back to it after some time. Often after a big project I too think "its not so great " but then after the mental fatigue of the project clears .. I can see the beauty .

kindleaddict63 08-31-2014 11:29 AM

I really like this one!

Quilter 65 08-31-2014 11:37 AM

Well, I LOVE it and I don't particularly like brown. Glad you are out from under the feeling that it is still hanging over you, but really a lovely quilt.

Cathy77 08-31-2014 12:59 PM

I think it was worth all the effort. It looks great!

GingerK 08-31-2014 01:08 PM

I think it is beautiful! I really hope it 'grows' on you because it deserves to be loved and admired.

Jackie Spencer 08-31-2014 01:29 PM

I think its beautiful! You did a good job!!

love to sew 08-31-2014 01:34 PM

I bet you will like it after you quilt it! I was so-so on a scrappy trip around the world until I quilted it and then it was Wow it looks fantastic. I think you did a wonderful job piecing your quilt and the pattern is on my to do list as well.

This top came out at 62" x 86"... big, for me. I didn't have a pattern. Just used scrap 2" squares for the 4 patches, and 4" squares for two HSTs, then trimmed them down to 3.5". You can arrange the block so that it will make either a Buckeye Beauty or a star... I did the star configuration. There's also another configuration called Jacob's Ladder. Very traditional... from before there were formal patterns.

I agree it would look lovely done in 30's feedsack reproductions!

I don't yet have a plan for the quilting. Any suggestions?

sewbizgirl 08-31-2014 05:50 PM

Thanks for all the positives, everyone! I think I will end up loving it once I put a nice 80/20 batting in it and get it quilted. If it looks good I'll show it again, finished.

lfstamper 08-31-2014 05:52 PM

What's not to love? It is beautiful.

quiltingeileen 08-31-2014 05:52 PM

Good job! The work was long and the quilt is beautiful.

JuneBillie 08-31-2014 05:57 PM

That is a beautiful quilt. Great job!

coastienest 08-31-2014 06:00 PM

Your quilt is awesome. Scrappy yet organized. You just need to look at it everyday and you will appreciate it more and more! Thanks for sharing it with all of us

Purpleprint 08-31-2014 10:31 PM

I just love scrap quilts and yes they sometimes a pain to make because of the placement of the pieces but oh do they turn out nice.

solstice3 09-01-2014 03:06 AM

It looks awesome

QuiltMom2 09-01-2014 03:37 AM

Nice quilt and kudos for hanging in there to complete it! There should be a special category for"like but not love" quilts!

It is very pretty seems like the harder the work the more beautiful the quilt. That's what I think anyway. I like it a lot.
