First I want to thank everyone on this forum, you helped give me the push to get this done. I am proud of it now, not before though. (Shame) I do not sew in this room, my sewing area is off the end of our living room, where my sewing cabinet is and I also sometimes sew at the kitchen table, where I can look outside.
This room is just my inventory! And the last picture is where I am trying to find a curtain solution to cover the shelves with. The pink curtains are going to Goodwill, I think I will end up just covering the lower shelves and keeping the easy reach ones open and neat at all times.
Now I can go through each container and put fabric in order, before I had no room to even try and figure it all out. I am also going to try and get rid of my yarn stash(yep, I got a yarn stash!), so that will free up room too.
Thanks for looking.

Not using this curtain idea.

Awesome room!

quiltsRfun 05-19-2011 02:22 PM

Nice job! Pat yourself on the back. Now if only I could get motivated. With me it's a case of Murphy's law, whatever space is freed up is immediately filled with something new coming in. LOL

Kimkankwilt 05-19-2011 02:29 PM

Your before pictures look like my sewing room. Hopefully I'll be getting some new workspace built soon with more storage. And your after pictures are awesome...good job!

Toto's Mom 05-19-2011 02:32 PM

Very nice!! Wish I had a room at all. My machine sets behind the living room sofa, and my "inventory" is in various tubs in the garage.

pab58 05-19-2011 02:37 PM

WOW!!!!! Such a difference!!! It now looks like one absolutely awesome sewing room!!!!!

CoventryUK 05-19-2011 02:38 PM

Well done!! Great job! Lovely sewing space... now can you send your quiltfairy to sort my room out!!!!!

Carron 05-19-2011 02:39 PM

Looks like a different room.

quilt addict 05-19-2011 02:40 PM

Great job and brave to post before pictures. I wish I had a room for storage. I have to get motivated to do this also. Look for it in June, after my vacation.

quilter41 05-19-2011 02:43 PM

Nice job. Where did you get the cabinet with the bins for fabrics? Looks so handy.

amma 05-19-2011 02:49 PM

Beautiful room! You did a good job cleaning and organizing :D:D:D

chickadeee55 05-19-2011 02:53 PM

I love that cabinet, my neighbor builds furniture and I gave him the idea of what I wish I had and that is what he came up with. And it is made with birch and oak.

Looks great! :)

chickadeee55 05-19-2011 02:58 PM

Well, I really had to think about posting before I did it, but you know the room was just messy and I got to the point where I would just go in there and find something and leave. I had no room to sort and arrange. Now I can, and I look forward to going in there.
I think we can all relate in some way. And others sharing pictures of their rooms got me to get my room put in order.

I wish you many happy hours using your new room! Awesome job!
One of these days I'm going to get mine organized. I keep getting into more and more projects rather than stop and take the time to really clean it up. My husband built me a gorgeous sewing cabinet and cutting table and he made great storage shelves for everything from Christmas decorations to a food pantry. I have bins similar to yours for my fabrics, but I haven't taken the time to organize it.
Maybe when my son remodels the Wreckroom, I will get into the mood to clean the back part of the basement where my studio is. On the other hand, it's going to be really messy and dusty, so I'll probably wait until that job is done. I'll have to clean back there anyway. Meanwhile, I'm going to pack up my sewing machine so it doesn't get dirt and dust in it. No, that won't work because I have a toddler quilt I must make by the middle of June and I'm takiing a log cabin class I need to keep up with. Diningroom table, here I come.
Back to your room - it's fantastic, terrifi, wonderful and all those other positive adjectives. Way to go

You did a very nice job! I love your cutting mat area. Enjoy your new space!

Grammy o'5 05-19-2011 03:46 PM

The after pictures look great!
I can see why you don't want the pink curtains. They almost look like bathroom or shower curtains.
Thanks for sharing.

rusty quilter 05-19-2011 03:59 PM

What a transition you have made in that room. I hope it inspires you to quilt quilt, and quilt some more.

Rose_P 05-19-2011 04:18 PM

It's great. Be careful if you start delving into that yarn stash, though. You might get an urge to knit something! I think I went from knitting back to quilting by a process of that sort.

sunni 05-19-2011 04:40 PM

Wow! Big difference :) it looks so good...and I LOVE the big quilt on the wall

kriscraft99 05-19-2011 04:43 PM

great transformation.

colleen53 05-19-2011 05:44 PM

I think you have done a fantastic job of making your room a creative and inspiring place again.
I am also working on mine to make it more of a retreat for me. one that makes me smile everytime I walk in the door.. it is getting there.. dh is making racks for my threads right now. so that is a start.
How are your handbags working out for you? I have had several request for the smaller size since yours.. and the leather handles are a hit.. I wish I had more... I am on the look out for some as nice as the ones I got from you..

4EVERquilt 05-19-2011 05:46 PM

Feels good I bet to get it organized. You did a beautiful job.

hperttula123 05-19-2011 05:55 PM

Ditto! Mine is over loaded and only 9'x9'. Think I need a room stretcher. LOL!

I love the after pictures! I can't stand clutter and you can be so organized with all your shelves and containers.
