OK.. after I did the D9P picture tutorial some folks asked for another.. since no patterns were suggested, I've decided to do one of the Churn Dash, or Hole in the Barn Door pattern. I'm making a quilt of it after I got hooked on this fabric and pattern. I got the two fabrics here at the local Walmart. It is by "Springs Creative Fabrics" (that is what is on the selvedge.

a panel I got to use on backing

this will be the center piece (4.5" square) of the block

Tippy 10-31-2010 08:38 AM

I'm making each block have a center square with one of the birds in it..
the outside of the blocks are a shade of green and a color from the bird or fruit in the block

Maybe I'll know how to use my camera by then and you'll be able to see pics! Your block is very, very nice.

Ohhhhhhh, why oh why doesn't our walmart have that fabric? It's just what I need more of for my son's quilt. I have to keep expenses down, but I do have some of this print that a wonderful board friend shared with me. I will follow this tute and you can be sure that his quilt will have a few of your squares in it.

winter012 10-31-2010 02:35 PM

your first block is gorgeous!

Jingle 10-31-2010 04:07 PM

Very pretty fabric and I like the 1st block. I can't wait to see them all finished.

Kitsapquilter 10-31-2010 04:16 PM

LOve, love that fabric. I never seen anything that pretty at Walmart. Of course, our Walmart does not have fabric now. Maybe I can find it on line some place! Will be waiting to see your finished quilt!

I bought several yards of this fabric 2-3 years ago... absolutely love it.... But then...anything with birds catch my attention. I'm still using bird fabric panels that I bought in Wyoming back in the mid 70's. Can't wait to see the tut... I sure would like to do something with the fabric besides petting it on occasion. :)

TN Donna 10-31-2010 04:40 PM

This will be very pretty. Mske two and ship me one. LOL

deebee 10-31-2010 04:50 PM

I love the intensity of the colors in the fabric. It's beautiful!

The quilt with the birds. How go cut the blocks and frame them? What size are they?? That looks so awesome. How do get the focus fabric cut ?

pennyswings 10-31-2010 05:50 PM

What beautiful blocks. I love all the coordinating colors, each is more lovely then the next.

AnnaK 10-31-2010 05:53 PM

I bought some of this fabric this summer to make my Mom something because she is a bird watcher. I love the fabrics you used for the borders on your blocks. I'll be watching your tute.

abonda 10-31-2010 05:56 PM

I have that fabric too!!!!!!!!!!

Gerbie 10-31-2010 06:00 PM

I purchased some of the same fab. when our Wal Mart was closing out the fabric dept. I love it but had no idea what I would do with it after I bought it. I just thought it was so pretty and the colors so vibrant. This gives me an idea, can't wait for your tut.
Does any one else ever do anything on the spur, just because you think the fab. if pretty with not idea of what you will make later? I have had a bad habit of doing this for years and not just for quilting either. I did this when I was just making garments, and still have some, that I have since used in quilting. So I at least found a use for some of it.

Isn't that how one builds a stash? By buying fabric we love with no idea what we are going to do with it? That is certainly how I do it, especially if it's a great bargain. I just can't pass it up.

Tippy thanks a lot. This was absolutely great to follow. You made it so clear. I have some beautiful fabrics with different things on them and never knew how to use them so now I am away to try my fussy cutting.
