I thought I'd start a thread on a new quilt I'm starting which is going to be a cathedral window pattern in batiks. This is my first time working with batiks, so will be something new for me. My individual blocks will be 4", so this will be a longer term project for me. I'm hoping having a progress thread will help me stay focused to complete it. :)
For the frame fabric, I decided to use a gray batik that has a greenish tint to it as well. I wanted something that looked like the lead in a real window with the green patina to it as well, so this looked pretty good to me. For the glass fabrics, I wanted some colors that were deep and rich looking as well as some lights that looked like glass. I think these look pretty good for that. Wish me luck! I'll be posting progress pics as things move along. :D "lead" fabric "glass" fabrics |
good luck, those are some awesome colors, i think those colors will make a wonderful cathedral :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Love your choice of colors. Looking forward to seeing your progress. Another masterpiece in the making.
That's going to be drop dead gorgeous!
I can't wait to see it! Hope you take lots of pics of your progress.
Fabulous! Batiks are my favorite, so will be interested in seeing your progress. Good luck - I think cathedral window is challenging.
Those fabrics are all beautiful. I love your plan and can't wait to see your progress.
Eddie, those fabrics are beautiful. I am anxious to start a quilt with Batiks...they are such beautiful fabrics. And I like the cathedral window pattern as well. Can't wait to see your pictures, your turn-around time seems to be over the top!
That's going to be very interesting. I've been wondering why people always use white as the framing fabric, though I was thinking in terms of a sandy-colored batik to represent cathedral walls. I like your color choice - it can represent either stone walls or the glass leading, as you plan it to.
I have a feeling it's going to be an awesome quilt! |
Can't wait to see your progress Eddie! It will be smashing!
I love batiks! Be sure to wash them before you use them Eddie. There is a lot of excess dye in them. I always use the Shout Color Catchers when I wash batiks.
I can't wait to see some "windows"!!
Pretty fabrics!!! Looking forward to seeing your quilt!!!
Eddie, where do you find all these fabrics? You really can pick them & can't wait to see this one finished, also.

I prefer working with batiks. I can't wait to see how this is going to look. You just can't make a mistake with batiks. Are you going to hand sew them or machine sew?

I love those fabrics! The quilt should be stunning! Can't wait to see it! Niether Rome nor a Cathedral Window quilt are built in a day...hopefully the quilt won't take longer than Rome! ;)

What?? No blocks completed yet? You are such a total slacker!!  ;)
Great choices in fabrics Eddie. Can't wait to see how you progress with this. But beware, once you use batiks there is no turning back. They are like a drug. |

Hi Eddie - this is going to be beautiful! What construction method are you using? The turn in the edges then fold or the fold in half and sew up each side then turn right side out and fold? Or none of the above?
Plus, would you mind sharing what your fatal mistake was so we don't do the same thing? We won't laugh, honest! 8-) |
It is going to be gorgeous.
