This quilt is mainly paperpieced. It began as meandering geese, then flowers. Next I but a loose border around the garden (not really sure what you call it). Since the geese are meandering, so was the quilting. Just have to bind it and it's off to a Sept 20 benefit for local woman who lost her leg.

I posted a couple pictures a few weeks ago - I'll do it again to show my progress. This was quite an undertaking for a quilting newbie....but I think it turned out quite well. Still working on perfecting the 1/4" seam, so I can veer from the paper piecing.

I found it on the internet - Name of designer and link at bottom of photo. (called chasing geese). Was a mini wall hanging, so I just enlarged it to the size I could use, and drew it on freezer paper for quilting. I think you could take it to a copy center and have it blown up on 18.5 x 11 paper or shrunk to the size you want. The copy center paper was too heavy for me to paper piece a long section. Am attaching what I found.

I can't believe you are a newbie quilter!! Awesome job!

barbo117 09-03-2011 04:25 PM

It's beautiful. I love the meandering geese also, the entire quilt goes together perfectly. Should be a real hit and sell quickly at your benefit. It should bring in big $$$ for the poor lady that lost her leg. God bless her and you for helping out!

BizzieLizzie 09-03-2011 04:44 PM

Are you sure you're a newbie? It seems like you are more of an expert to me! Lovely quilt. Stunning! Well done.

I wish you all the best with the fund raising. I am sure it will raise quite a bit for your benefit.

I'm pretty new. Took my first quilting class in the Winter of 2009 at local quilt shop. Made the "Yellow Brick Road" and it had so many colors and fabrics I hated it when I got done. That was the last true pattern I used. Now I just make it up as I go - with lots of hints from the free quilting ideas I get from online sites. The biggest problem I have is that I cannot for the life of me make a consistent 1/4" seam. I have the foot, have tried putting tape on my machine....just can't get it down. So, now I mainly just use paper pieced patterns and embelish on them because I can follow those line. LOL.

It is really beautiful! The loose border is called a flange and I like using them also. I started quilting in 2009 also and have not tried paper piecing yet but you have inspired me.
