A few years ago, my DH surprised me with a quilted clock for our anniversary. He had made it himself. To do so, he adjusted the Dresden Plate pattern from 16 to 12 increments, bought the fabric; realized the fabric was off and bought a different line and used my sewing room and supplies.

Someone had asked for me to post a picture. Here is the surprise and I love it (and him):

COngratulations!
Thank you for showing the picture.
I think a lot of hubbys are really supportive, they just don't always know how to get involved and show it.

What a great (and creative) guy!

KittyGram 06-15-2009 08:23 AM

Very cool!!!! Tell me, though, what do you mean by, "the fabric was off"? Do you mean the cuts or the fabric choices themselves?

What a creative idea!!!

Debbie1 06-15-2009 08:24 AM

Nope, as a matter of fact, he had to call his Mom to walk him through the process of running the machine. She told me later that he called her in a total panic "OMG I killed the machine!!!!!!!!!!" He had run out of bobbin thread - lol.

The whole time he was using my room, I thought I was going crazy. Every day, something else got moved - you know - just a little.....

His first pick was "piggy pink" AND he was smart enough to hide the fabric. HE KNEW that I would immediately recognize rogue fabric in the mix.

barnbum 06-15-2009 09:31 AM

Give him a kiss for every reply!! What a wonderful man you married!!

RedGarnet222 06-15-2009 10:28 AM

Wow what a nice guy! My hubby would never in a million years try quilting. He wouldn't ever even try sewing. That was very thoughtful of your guy to make this for you. He's a keeper for sure.

He's a mix between Tigger, a boy scout, Don Quixote and Mr. Incredible. Add that he is also in touch with his softer female side and you got the picture.

mkanderson 06-15-2009 12:32 PM

Mine does cut my pieces out for me! Only if I will trace them on the wrong side and then he will cut them out while watching-listening to TV. He will help me pick colors, patterns etc. go shopping, But will not try sewing. He also is my "ripper"

Shemjo 06-15-2009 12:41 PM

Sew sweet! And as a surprise too! You describe a wonderul mate!

Ducky 06-15-2009 12:42 PM

What a touching surprise, Martina. My heart surely would have melted if it had been presented to me. Tell Mr. Incredible that there is this strange Ducky somewhere in Colorado that thinks that what he did was really great.

If he also did the sewing, there wouldn't be anything left for you to do. lol

Or do I hear duelling machines?

 I have tried getting him to "work" with me....no such luck! Told him about all the guys on here and how they sew...."That's not me"
I will settle for the "ripper" and the "cutter" for now!

littlehud 06-15-2009 04:41 PM

What a great surprise that must have been. I love your clock and what a great guy to make it for you.

MollieSue 06-15-2009 05:39 PM

Oh, Martina - I love your clock!!!!! How wonderful of him to make it, and keep it a surprise!! :D :D

b.zang 06-15-2009 06:50 PM

There is probably nothing he could have done that would have let you know how well he knows you! Now THAT'S true love.

Did you ever comment on things being moved while he was working? I can just imagine the bluffing that would have to happen :)

No, I just thought I was losing it. I generally keep those ideas (and the voices in my head) quiet. lol I told him later though and he was surprised because he apparently took great effort to set everything right again.

OHSue 06-16-2009 05:51 PM

What a great guy and a great clock!
Your stash may not be safe anymore, though.
