I thought I had posted this quilt...it's been quilted and bound for over a year...and haven't taken a picture of the finished project...It uses lots of 1" pieces...5,832 to be exact. It measures 91" x 106".

Thanks for the kind words....I am so drawn to small pieces and the potential they have. These are made from 1" strips and squares that are trimmings. No yardage comes to harm when making these 9P:D. They are random lights and darks with darks in the center and corners.

Zo this picture was taken in Sept of 2013...I keep sets of ten in a pickle jar, keeping track of the # of sets on a post it note inside the bottom of the lid. In early 2015, I counted up and had over 700 9P's I decided to do something with them. My inspiration was this antique quilt. I think I had enough to do this for our queen bed and drew up the pattern in EQ.

By March of 2015, I had the flimsy finished...I did have it LA quilted and put the binding on it in July of last year.

Stunning quilt. I admire your patience and tenacity. I am inspired to deal with a basket of scraps.

Homespun 07-22-2017 03:58 AM

Wow, wow, wow...that takes patience. Can I send you my small scraps? PM me if you want them.

AlvaStitcher 07-22-2017 04:15 AM

Your quilt is awesome! I love using scraps too

WMUTeach 07-22-2017 04:20 AM

I am enchanted with those long term project that slowly grow over time. I am working on the Farmer's Wife in that way. Just a little here and there. Up to about 80 of the squares but it has been three years.

I like your use of the wee little bits to make a big beauty. I can only imagine the number of of who are looking for an old pickle jar, stick notes and rummaging through out scraps to make our own version of your project. We will check back with you in..... 4 or 5 years and show off our own version of your "big mini".

oksewglad 07-22-2017 05:48 AM

WMUTeach..one of the purposes of sharing our quilts is to inspire others. So yes I will check back with you in a couple of years! I have started making 9P again, but this time with just 2 fabrics in each block. BTW, it takes a minimum of a 5" strip of dark and 4" of light. I have over 50 in a jar and 80 of the random in the original jar. I am also trying to think of a quilt to make with the 1 1/4" strips I have...leaning towards 4P with them.

Homespun, thanks for the kind offer, but I'm trying to downsize! I have sooo many small pieces, so I decline. My quilt guild friends tell me I need therapy as they hand me their bags of little leftovers. I reply with a thank you and tell them this is my therapy!

Jordan 07-22-2017 07:35 AM

WOW! That is alot of pieces and beautifully done. Thx for sharing

Karamarie 07-22-2017 07:53 AM

Wowzee - all those little pieces. I envy anyone that uses that many little pieces.

bearisgray 07-22-2017 08:32 AM

What an inspiration for the little pieces - that I now feel guilty for throwing away.

It is beautiful!

trolleystation 07-22-2017 09:08 AM
