In our shop we use gray thread for all piecing. It's a neutral that goes with everything and remember, it's not going to be seeen, just holding your pieces together. Now, quiting the top - that's another thing altogether!

I started quilting bed size quilts what fun you will have love the fabric

SoBuzy 04-12-2012 04:14 AM

Just did a baby quilt with the gray and yellows! Loved the colors but went to three shops in order to get what I needed,,,,love, love, love your collection! Isn't it fun to achieve so many "firsts"?

anniesews 04-12-2012 04:23 AM

Your color choice is really pretty. Good luck.

tildiemae 04-12-2012 04:30 AM

Love your fabric...I have found a grey or taupe colored thread will blend with almost any color of fabric that I sew. Good luck on your project!

You will do just fine. Take it slow and easy...rushing is when I goof. The fabric is lovely...can't wait to see the finished product.

katesnanna 04-12-2012 05:44 AM

No you aren't biting off more than you can chew. Just take your time and come here and ask for any help you may need.
Keep in mind that making a quilt is all straight sewing.

Elaine433 04-12-2012 05:46 AM

I love your choice of fabrics. I am sure that this quilt will come out perfect.

butterflies5518 04-12-2012 06:02 AM

Beautiful choices for fabric! Yeah, gonna be excited to see this one too!

Geri B 04-12-2012 06:59 AM

I usually use either beige or gray for all piecing..........white occasionally.......

newbiequilter 04-12-2012 10:09 AM

Great fabric choices. I have been collecting red, white and black for a while, but the yellow calls out to me....looking forward to seeing photos of the finished top.

riutzelj 04-12-2012 10:19 AM

Lots of us use a light grey for piecing, blends with most anything except white

quilt addict 04-12-2012 10:27 AM

As someone mentioned, it is just several runners put together. Very pretty fabric. What pattern did you choose. Would love to see some of your blocks.

I generally use a light grey or off white for all my piecing unless I am using a black or very dark fabric.

thenonnielady 04-12-2012 11:43 AM

Think of it as if it was a large placemat.

I'd try a light-to-medium gray. I don't like tans and creams so I use grays instead....and with gray as one of your colors, I think it would be perfect! :)

nstitches4u 04-12-2012 06:01 PM

I think that should do it. Use it for a couple of seams & then check. I LOVE this fabric & now my interest is really piqued! You'll post when you're done, right?
