Big Moment!

About to start piecing my first ever bed size quilt, a gift for my niece! Wish me luck, she may be sleeping under a quilt the size of a placemat if things don't go as planned, LOL. I have only done a table runner and a small QAYG baby quilt. Hope I am not biting off more than I can chew!

You have to start somewhere right. Here are the fabrics I am using.

Grandma Bonnie 04-10-2012 04:29 PM

Good luck! Beautiful fabrics!

barny 04-10-2012 04:29 PM

Oh, looks to be really good lookin' fabric. You'll do good.

noveltyjunkie 04-10-2012 04:30 PM

Good luck with it! Are you using a pattern?

tezell0801 04-10-2012 04:42 PM

I am using a pattern I found on Pinterest. Very similar to a pattern I purchased to used with just slight differences. Just out in my 1/4 piecing foot and ready to go! Lots of first for me, I have spent a lot of time here reading and decided to brave it.

sahm4605 04-10-2012 04:44 PM

ummmmm I do hope that you have more fabric yardage than that or it will be a really really small bed quilt. like for a baby doll.

tezell0801 04-10-2012 04:44 PM

I was not sure what color of thread to use for piecing, I am going with a pale ivory/yellow color. What do you think?

QuiltnNan 04-10-2012 04:46 PM

really beautiful fabrics!!!

tezell0801 04-10-2012 04:46 PM

Yes I have 5 of these fat quarter packs and some additional yardage. I have not fully decided on backing yet, but I have a piece I am trying on for size, LOL. Seeing how it grows on me as I quilt.

I used that precise fabric to make a baby quilt and loved the results. Quilting thread color is fine. Most people use tan or light gray for most piecing. Have fun.

Thanks for the votes of confidence! I completed piecing one row of blocks, calling it a night. Love it so far. I work 10 hour days and 5am gets here early. But tomorrow night, I will be right back here stitching away and watching American Idol!

I have passed this fabric up several times, but always reluctantly!

Dolphyngyrl 04-10-2012 07:41 PM

Bedsize aren't harder just take longer, you will do just fine, one of my first quilts was bedsize

cathyvv 04-10-2012 08:13 PM

Think of it as making several runners and sewing them together. That way it's not so overwhelming to think about. Good luck!

cowgirlquilter 04-10-2012 08:15 PM

I love those fabrics!

karenpatrick 04-11-2012 02:03 AM

SouthPStitches 04-11-2012 05:53 AM

You're going to do just fine. Your fabric choice is wonderful. A full size quilt is nothing more than a place mat or runner on steroids.

Crqltr 04-11-2012 06:15 AM

Beautiful fabric, my first quilt was a queen (I didn't know it was supposed to be harder to do). You will do just fine!

luvstoquilt 04-11-2012 07:02 AM

Raggiemom 04-11-2012 08:11 AM

Fabric is very pretty and that thread color should be fine. I keep silver/light grey and light tan threads on hand at all times and generally use them to piece. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Have fun with it :)

jljack 04-11-2012 09:17 AM

LOVE those fabrics. Don't worry...just do it!! One of my first quilts was a Trip Around the World in Queen size...it was intimidating then, but I got it done and gave it as a present to DD and DSIL. They use it still, 6 years later.

EvelynJ 04-11-2012 11:30 AM

Good luck, I can't wait to see the finished quilt.

JenniePenny 04-11-2012 11:38 AM
