This is my first hand quilting attempt and I am loving it. Doing the big stitch method, giving it a primitive look. The fabrics are posting much brighter than they are. Actual colors are more like a slate blue, brick red and cream.

Very pretty. You can be pleased with your even stitches.

stacey65 02-18-2011 02:09 PM

Very nice job...

carolaug 02-18-2011 02:10 PM

Wow...wonderful job!

sewwhat85 02-18-2011 02:11 PM

very nice great job

CloverPatch 02-18-2011 02:12 PM

What are you using for thread? For that primitive look of bigger stiches I always use Candle Wicking yarn, curious what you use.

fabric_fancy 02-18-2011 02:12 PM

i love big stitch handquilting, its the only handquilting i do everything else is done by machine

Jill 02-18-2011 02:12 PM

Looks great, such nice even stitches.

susie0808 02-18-2011 02:13 PM

I think this looks beautiful! I like it when hand stitching ages a quilt. Love to see it when completed.

Yes, I was wondering the same thing.

I use lots of different things including 10 wt. crochet thread, $5 from Walmart for a HUGE ball, with which I've just finished quilting a candlewicked quilt for a customer.

Your stitches look nice and even, which is the goal to strive for. It'll be so pretty!!

Hi can you show a pic of your candlewicked quilt pretty please ?!

tutty 02-18-2011 02:19 PM

I love the large stitch look but sure it must be done on specific type quilts ?

magpie 02-18-2011 02:19 PM

It sure complements your pattern beautifully. Nice job.

debbieumphress 02-18-2011 02:20 PM

For some reason, when I use that big stitch my friends call it a Utility stitch. Works great on bigger blocks. Yours is wonderful.

I am having a hard tiime finding Candlewicking yarn. I had a big stash, that was passed down, in several colors. I havn't been using it much, since it is hard to find.

sueisallaboutquilts 02-18-2011 05:11 PM

That's really pretty!! Wouldn't quilting thread work just as well??

Your stitches are just perfect!

RevPam 02-18-2011 06:03 PM

I'm learning to love this big stitch quilting. Your work is so perfect!

dphelps 02-18-2011 07:09 PM

Gee, I thought everyone quilted with big stitches, at least I do. LOL! I am kidding but I have tried this and I think it looks great on a pattern like yours. I am also interested in the type thread you use.

RkayD 02-18-2011 07:10 PM

very nice!

skydiver70 02-18-2011 07:16 PM

I like how even you have your stitches. I can make the big stitches, but oh not so even like yours.

Renee110 02-18-2011 07:52 PM

I love it. Your stitches are so nice and even. I am doing my quilt in big stitches too. My thread isn't as thick as yours, but I hope mine comes out as nice as yours!

Panther Creek Quilting 02-18-2011 08:10 PM

I am using 10wt Crochet thread. Wasn't sure what I was supposed to use, just kinda winging it at this point. Thank you so much for the compliments. I sometimes think that I am too hard on myself. Was thinking that the stitches looked all sorts of sizes. You all have given me the confidence to press on!

Thanks again-

Sheila

Definitely keep going...your stitches look really good, nice and even. Thanks for sharing your progress.

Pickles 02-18-2011 11:05 PM

Your stiching is perfect keep up the good work :D

jackied 02-18-2011 11:22 PM

This quilt looks great with the larger quilting. I have noticed in some quilt magazines that not everyone is going in for the tiny hand quilting stitch.

emerald46 02-19-2011 05:04 AM

Wonderful stitching!

pieces 02-19-2011 05:49 AM

Love the big stitch. It really goes fast and you don't have to try for the 'small' stitches, which I could never get the hang of.

janiesews 02-19-2011 05:53 AM

Very pretty and I love your big, even stitches.

raedar63 02-19-2011 06:45 AM

I really like the big sticthes!

mouseface 02-19-2011 07:05 AM

Baloonatic 02-19-2011 07:08 AM

Beautiful job, you did well! :-D

mpeters1200 02-19-2011 07:18 AM

I love the utility stitching. Saw it on Fons and Porter a few weeks back, just beautiful. Now I've seen it with very dark thread and very light. I handquilt most of my projects. I've not tried the bigger stitching, but now I sure am tempted! I don't know why they call it Utility stitching. But it's beautiful no matter what you call it!

katlady 02-19-2011 07:23 AM

Very nice I love the big stitches, it makes the quilt.

cuppi duke 02-19-2011 07:30 AM

Boy your stitches are perfect. I haven't been able to manage the big stitch. What kind of thread did you use?

SandraD 02-19-2011 07:46 AM

Your stiching is so even - looks great!

grannypat7925 02-19-2011 07:54 AM

Lookin' good! Great stitching!
