That bird wall hanging with narrower strips...

I think I like the narrower one better. It seems to be more in proportion. Hmm--now which one to give as a gift?

Both are good...I have this panel.
both look great
They are both so pretty that I would have a hard time choosing.
Both are equally beautiful. Choosing is impossible for an outside observer-50-50 split I am sure! I really like the treatment you used for that beautiful panel. I am so partial to bird panels; I also like bird yardage and bird pre-cuts.
Is the background in the panel different? One seems to be white and the other blue. Maybe it's just the way the picture looks. I like them both. I will be PM you on more questions for my son's. BrendaK

Both are lovely and either would make a wonderful gift, but I agree that the narrower one seems more in proportion. So, you should keep the one you like better. The recipient of your gift will not have the two quilts together to compare, so they will not notice the difference like you do.

They both look very nice. You will make a great decision I am sure.
I am sure that whichever one you decide to give will be joyfully received.
I like them both nice job!!!
IMHO I like the narrower - dunno why, just do!

I like the bigger one.
I like the wider border. It balances with the size of the sashing. I love this quilt.

Both are lovely.

I agree, the narrower strips are more proportionate and eye appealing. Good looking quilt!
I like the wider stripped one. It seems to highlight the birds more, in my sight. I have looked at this picture for two days now and it still says to me the larger sashing/framing.

They both look lovely.

Both are great! What a great way to showcase that bird fabric!
I prefer the narrower sashing.

Dear Barnbum, please note, I did not stare for two days straight, but did come back the second day to make sure that I still thought that the wider strips featured the birds best. That said, it was very nice of you to worry about my poor ol' eyes, staring at that picture for two days. I think that would have caused glazed and crossed eyes, for sure.
Maybe I should go look in the mirror, though, you never know. |
Very pretty, I like both.

I too have this panel and love what you've done with it. Is this an original or did you use a pattern? Which pattern is it? Thanks so much!
Great job. Love the placement of the panel pieces.
Great takes on this panel-very pretty!
Had I seen the finished projects separately, I would like them both but seen side-by-side I prefer the wider strips because the tree seems larger and airier and the birds more naturally grouped.
Both are great!
I like the narrow one better also.

I designed it. It's pretty easy if you draw it out--mark things up--label the block numbers. Five blocks have the strips one way, five another way, and two another. Just print off the picture and study it. It's important which side is sewed on first.

Sounds easy enough. What is the order to sew on the strips? stealing your idea I know but I've had this panel so long and didn't know what to do with it till now. Thanks for sharing it!
Very pretty, like them both
Thank you!

It changes... blocks 3, 6, 8, 9, and 11 get green first. Blocks 2, 4, 5, 7, 10 get floral first. Blocks 1 and 12 are all green--doesn't matter which side goes first. Check the picture to see what sides get strips. :-) Post your picture on here in a reply when you're done--I'd love to see it.

Aww--Helen--I'm glad it gave you ideas! I sure get a lot of ideas from other quilters, so it's nice to be able to pay it forward. ;-)
PS Don't forget to number your blocks! :-) |
You had a tough choice to make! I've looked and looked at these, and it appears that the larger one is closer, as if you're standing almost up to a window. The narrow sashing on the other is as if the window is a little farther away. I'm glad you chose to keep the one you liked better--space requirements aside. Both really pretty.
