What do you think, should I leave it without the black sashing, or have you got another idea, not black, some other colour???
Thanks for your feed-back :D

shadoh 08-15-2011 03:22 AM

i very much like the black sashing

jeank 08-15-2011 03:23 AM

I like the black added too. thats my vote.

Kathios 08-15-2011 03:24 AM

The black sashing looks great!

sunflower126 08-15-2011 03:25 AM

I'm not sure about the black...what does a really dark brown look like? I love the colors and the blocks.

SueDor 08-15-2011 03:26 AM

Both look great! What is that pattern, its cute?

athenagwis 08-15-2011 03:27 AM

Hmmm I think I agree that is needs a sashing and I think sunflower is spot on with more of a dark brown. I think that will match your current colors better.

Good luck! Can't wait to see it finished.

Cheers!
Rachel

Haven't got any dark brown available

SWEETPEACHES 08-15-2011 03:29 AM

I think the black is too stark. Maybe if it were thinner strips.

yonnikka 08-15-2011 03:29 AM

The widest black sashing is too bold--it isolates your blocks from one another. The narrowest (half inch/3/4 inch?) is better, but since you are featuring so many autumn and nature colors in your squares, why not try a dark brown. It will give your quilt that architectural look, and still remain in your color scheme of browns, tans, creams...

Sorry, don't know the name, it was a BOM in our group, very easy and I made it with scraps but I want to make another one sometimes with a material with pattern and a plain matching one, all blocks que same this time.

owlvamp 08-15-2011 03:30 AM

I'm not sure about the black...

granny_59 08-15-2011 03:31 AM

would like to see those nice blocks with a rusty brown/orange sashing!
Granny

katz_n_kwiltz 08-15-2011 03:35 AM

im with granny, she would like dark brown or orange sashing, im a bright, the black is ok, but im sure a dark brown would unify better than black. hugz

I think I will leave it for a while and see if I can find something in autumn/earthy colours next time I go shopping. I myself always thought I would use the black but now looking at it, I find it very "harsh" to the other colours.
Thanks for your help!!!

litacats 08-15-2011 03:49 AM

I like the black sashing it make the design pop

sueisallaboutquilts 08-15-2011 04:03 AM

Nice quilt! I think the black will work but I'd make it narrow.

hobbykat1955 08-15-2011 04:04 AM

I'd use the autumn leaf pattern...

emerald46 08-15-2011 04:08 AM

I agree, brown or other dark autumn color. Love those blocks!

karenm36 08-15-2011 04:09 AM

If you use sashing, I agree I think the black is kind of harsh. A rusty/orangy/brown kind of color I think might work better. That being said, I do kind of like the waffle-look of it without the sashing. I'm wondering it you could still keep that kind of look by making your sashing fairly narrow. Love the pattern...that's so cool. And I really like the way you've combined the colors you used!

I agree!!! (with Granny)

Black sashing would work but it should be thin. So the color doesn't take over.

You could do the binding in black!

Good luck!!

newquilter10 08-15-2011 04:38 AM

I think it needs sashing not sure black is it. I would go Autumm like the others have said and the sunflowers would be pretty. I have done that before.

I, too, like the basketweave look it has without the sashing. Nice colors! Karen

catladyquilts 08-15-2011 04:48 AM

I like the sashing

blueangel 08-15-2011 05:15 AM

Black sashing definately.

CajunQuilter2 08-15-2011 05:17 AM

I like the black sashing as well...

Yosamitesa 08-15-2011 05:25 AM

Not sure about the black...what about a tan color?

leatheflea 08-15-2011 05:33 AM

I vote no sashing or a light sashing. perferably no sashing then brighter border.

jamsbuying 08-15-2011 05:37 AM

I do like the black sashing...

Scissor Queen 08-15-2011 05:42 AM

Personally I like it without any sashing.

bibliostone 08-15-2011 05:45 AM

See what it would look like with sashing that matches the center square and a cornerstone from one of your other fabrics.

Dianemarie 08-15-2011 06:17 AM

LOVE THE BLACK SASHING - IT JUST MAKES IT COME ALIVE WITH THE FALL COLORS !!!

DebJ 08-15-2011 07:41 AM

Personally, I think the pattern formed at the corners when the blocks meet is nice and prefer it without sashing at all. Love your colors. It is fine with sashing but I like it better overall without it.

Yea, not sure about black. Is there black in the blocks anywhere? Maybe a brown.

Well after a good night's sleep :D and a rested brain which can think properly again.... :? and looking at the layout again, I think, after taking on board all your kind advice and propositions, I will settle for the light coloured sashing. :-) What do you think :?: Also I think I will add another row....

BeeNana 08-15-2011 04:59 PM

Thinner strips and dark brown.

Came back after posting and saw your light sashing.......nice.

ilovetosew 08-15-2011 05:04 PM

I like the black for sashing. Very pretty colours.

QuiltingJaguar 08-15-2011 05:11 PM

Don't like the black which is also very wide. Use a dark green, brown or such as that would be much better.

cjr 08-15-2011 05:14 PM

Goldish, green or orange sashing. Brown ok. Stores are getting in beautiful fall fabrics
