Black and Yellow Applique Experiment
1 Attachment(s)
I have always admired the "reverse applique" done by the Hmong - and probably others.
What I learned: that basting works much better than the short little applique straight pins for keeping the layers together! That if I thought of the black as what I'm appliqueing down worked better than what I had been doing. I obviously have a long ways to go to get this to "work" - but I did try - a little bit, anyway! |
Looking good! It feels good to stretch yourself.

Looks great. Have you tried using black thread yet?

So far, so good.

If you find you love reverse applique, try "Dutch Treat" - very challenging, but really pretty.

The Hmong work is beautiful and detailed. You are brave to try it and will learn a lot as you go.
|
that is really neat, you are good at that.

Your reverse applique looks very nice. I think it is fun to do. I also admire the intricate work the Hmong people do. I have a dress with the bodice front section made that way. I still enjoy it. However, it is worn out and I plan to take that section and make a pillow with it because I can't bear to part with it. So, enjoy your new technique.

A throw away piece? You can throw it my way...

Way to go, Bear. I have pondered doing this. Thank you for sharing.

Quite an undertaking. I think ladies in Equador also use this technique. Don't tell them I can't spell the name of their country.
