Default Black and Yellow Applique Experiment

I have always admired the "reverse applique" done by the Hmong - and probably others.

What I learned: that basting works much better than the short little applique straight pins for keeping the layers together!

That if I thought of the black as what I'm appliqueing down worked better than what I had been doing.

I obviously have a long ways to go to get this to "work" - but I did try - a little bit, anyway!

No - I was using yellow so the stitches would show. If I choose to continue it, I might change to red thread. It's a practice/throwaway piece.

If you find you love reverse applique, try "Dutch Treat" - very challenging, but really pretty.

The Hmong work is beautiful and detailed. You are brave to try it and will learn a lot as you go.
