i do like black in quilts, but in this case i think darker shades of a mottled brown would look even better.

I like the block in it, and think it will make the secondary pattern really pop.

I think charcoal gray would work best but I've decided these fabrics simply don't work with this pattern. I am going to do this quilt in the black (pepper) and solid greens, blues, teal etc.
The yellow is ugly -- I also think if I reveresed it and made the arrows that pattern that might be nicer.

If you are making the blocks in a variety of colors, the black will really tie them all together. I really like the block.
