blue jean quilt

This summer when my sister and I visited an old neighbor, she asked if I ever made a quilt using blue jeans. I said no, but I would like to make one, but need to get some blue jeans. She had a huge pile of blue jeans from her husband and son that she wanted to get rid of. I took less than half the pile and started cutting the blue jeans up.
I deceided to make a quilt for my co-worker, who helped me move the day after Thanksgiving. I used some plaid material that I already had and backed it with a flannel sheet. It's a utility quilt, so I actually made it for the car to use in the winter. Hope you like it. I am working on a quilt for my neighbor and also one for myself. When I see her this summer, I 'll take more blue jeans home and work on more quilts. |
I love denim quilts, yours look great.

nicely done

Great blue jean quilt!

Awesome quilt! I love the 4-patch design. I know your friend will love it.

Great job! I love jean quilts, have only made 1 about 7 years ago for my grandson. I've since save lots more jeans, precut them into 6.5 inch sqs and some just cut the legs off for strips for more quilts. You've ignited my excitement to get going on making more!

i'm glad to see denim quilts on the comeback.
yours are beautiful. love that little pop of red |
Oh that looks neat!! great idea. I just cut up the legs of three pair of jeans that were not going to charity. I may make a rag quilt out of them for my cats to lay on. I really, really had to make myself cut them up too. I hate doing that to clothes but these couldn't be given away.

Very well done!
|
great job !
|
Very nice! Should be very warm!
|
Ha...I made a few denim quilts in the past and people found out that I had made a few, so they donated theirs to me. I'm done with the denim ....at least for now ;) and went and cleaned out my stash of old jeans and donated them to the Goodwill this week.
|
Very nice. I'll bet your neighbor will be thrilled to get a quilt made from her DH's and DS's jeans!
|
Denim makes great rag quilts.
|
Beautiful quilt! Love the pops of color and a warm flannel backing!
|
Great job on this! Fun with all the bits of color. Terrific back too!
|
Great ideas love the plaids mixed in too. Sometimes jean quilts become so heavy and hard to work on.
|
I have made three. The first one was a rag quilt with flannel on back. My 18 yr. old GS has had it since he was about 6 and it is still being used by him. I can't tell you how many Boy Scout camp-outs it has gone on with him.
|
Beautiful, and I like that you just tied it. Is that the norm for blue jean quilts, since they are already so thick? I've been saving our old ones to make one too, and your design just gave me a wonderful inspiration. Love it.
|
That's great!! Was it difficult to work with... the denim being so thick? Love the red splashes!
|
Looks nice and warm!

Sometimes it was hard to get the yarn through when I was tying the quilt, but I didn't have any problems when I was sewing it. I'm going to make more of these for family memevbers - they are great in the car for emergency use.

Very cute, my husband - who is a denim nut, gets is a terrible mood when he has to wear anything else - would love it! I like that you tied the quilt, just perfect for the casual quilt.

This is so pretty, comfy and warm looking. The story behind the quilt including your paying-forward is sweet as well.

Love your jean quilt. The plaids and the flannel sheet for the back are great.

Your denim quilt is great - love the pop of color the plaid gives it! And the idea of a flannel sheet on the back, yum; warm and cozy!
