Yes, this is quilted with navy blue on the top and a medium/cornflower blue on the back. Since the top has such contrast between the blue and yellow there was no way to "hide" the quilting. If I had time I would have searched for a blue and yellow veriegated thread, but we wanted to finish as soon as we could.

We audition thread by laying a couple of feet of thread on the top to see how it looks. You can't really tell by holding the spool up because the color looks much different in small doses than it does all bunched up on the spool. Throw a few pieces of thread on your top and see what you think. Be sure and post pictures!

Thanks everyone for all the encouraging comments. We gave her the quilt on Saturday and she loves it. We put it right on her bed and her granddaughter says she hasn't stopped talking about it. We are so grateful that there was something we could do for her.

That is an absolutely stunning quilt. I love the green! what a surprise in the middle of the yellow and blue. neat! I love the color choices too.
Are you a quilting team? I would love to know your story. Have you posted it on the board before? I am so sorry to hear about your friend. One of mine has been fighting cancer for 3 years now but she has the most amazing attitude. She is so cheerful and funny and lifts me up whenever I am with her. Her dr. said she would be on chemo the rest of her life. She doesn't seem to find this a bit depressing!! She's the best. God's blessings to all of you.

Helen -

Thanks for the encouraging words. My wife and I are a team; I have posted our story before, but basically she wanted to do something crafty and took a quilting class at a shop near our home. She hated cutting, so since I'm a math nerd I started doing her cutting so she could sew. She signed up for another class, so I went with her intending to cut, but she and the teacher talked me into taking the class completely.

Our friend had to be hospitalized over the weekend, but it turned out to be problems other than the cancer. The good news is that she has responded well to the treatment and the tumors have shrunk. Hopefully she'll get to go home by the end of this week. When we visited her last night she thanked us again for the quilt and told us how many people she had paraded into her bedroom to look at it. We really got a charge out of that.

I forgot to mention earlier that when we first gave it to her she said she would put it away at night when she was sleeping. We told her to sleep with the quilt, because every time she wraps up in it that's a hug from us. She told us last night that she had been collecting her hugs.

Thanks again everyone for the kind comments.

Hello friends. Our friend loved her quilt and was able to use it for a few months. As her disease progressed, it ended up being too heavy and she had to stop sleeping under it, but she still enjoyed looking at it. We moved her into hospice on August 10, and she passed away on August 14. We were able to spend a lot of time with her at the end, and we were there with her when she passed, along with her grandchildren and her son. We certainly miss her, but we know she is in Heaven with her Savior and getting reaquainted with her husband, who preceded her 20+ years ago.

The quilt came home with us for safe keeping and to be laundered, and eventually will be re-homed. I must admit that both Kim and I are hoping her son will offer it back to us; time will tell.

I appreciate all the prayers for Mom Allen; she is perfectly healed now. I also appreciate the well wishes and comments on this project, because we probably had more emotional investment in this quilt than we have in any other quilt we've made. It served its purpose and that was a wonderful confirmation to us.

Thanks again and Best Wishes to all.

Darren
