Blue and yellow Log Cabin
3 Attachment(s)
My wife moved from GA to TN in 1991 to attend Bible college. When she got here the first person she met was "Mom Allen." Mom Allen adopted her and became her TN mom. Now, twenty-plus years later they are still good friends.
After we got some of our backlog down, she wanted to commission us to make her a quilt to use as a bedspread in her room. We agreed to do it, but of course we could not let her pay us. She picked the Log Cabin block and said she'd like it to be yellow and blue. She left everything else up to us. We have been working on it since summer, but Kim's dad passed away in July and my dad spent 89 days in the hospital in the fall, and got out the day before Christmas Eve. We are starting to recover and had been working on the quilt casually, but last week we found out that our dear friend has terminal cancer. We have been working double-time to get it finished will be giving it to her in a few minutes. Let me know what you think. Darren |

Renee -
We really wanted to use the traditional red centers, but we were afraid it would look juvenile with a red-yellow-blue primary color scheme. We found the yellow floral in our stash and decided the green would be perfect and tie the blue and yellow together. A bit more info about the quilt: The blocks were constructed using Eleanor Burn's Jelly Roll method. The quilt is 100" square. My wife specifically wanted this quilting pattern because the leaves remind her of hearts. The layout is "Starlight." Thanks, Darren |

I'm sorry for all the loss and potential loss you and your wife will experience. Mom Allen will appreciate your kindness very much, I'm sure. The quilting looks like many hearts, that will reach around her and cover her in your warmth and love.
Love the way the green center block just pops! I've recently made a light/dark blue log cabin and let me tell you the center was just there...not popping or anything. What a difference adding a splash of color does! Like it! |
I first have to tell you both that I am so sorry to hear of your wife's dad. Please tell her that she is in my prayers. I know it is sometimes harder to have someone you love sick and with nothing to do but wait on them in the hospital to see how they recover. Very stressful, indeed. I hope you both are being extra kind to each other.
I love the quilt for your "mom", I know she will just love it. I also am sorry to hear of her sickness. Bless her heart. |
